Lighnin Hopkins - Mojo Hand

I picked this up within the last few months. Can't go wrong with Lightin Hopkins.

The What Four - Gemini 4

A nice little production that seems to be in the vein of early 60's instrumentals. Has a little bit of everything and almost sounds like something Jack Nitzche would have done

Electric Prunes - Help Us (Our Father, Our King)

Electric Prunes released 2 religious based lp's in 1968. This was a promo only 45 from the 2nd and for good reason as this would have never flown off the shelves.

The Savages - Little Miss Sad

Took a morning ride to a nearby town hitting some flea markets for records. Came home with a couple dozen. Met a store owner that claims to have 300,000 45's in storage. I had talked with him before to try to get a peek but no luck. I picked up some pretty cool 45's from him so I can just imagine what he has in storage.
This is probably my favorite version of this song which is more raw I think than other versions.

Fireballs - Long Green

Here is another one I picked up from the parental units. This was their last chart hit as you can see on
the label it hit #73.

Fargo - Robins, Robins

I was lazy last night. To make up for it I uploaded a song to my other blog as well. Here is another one received in the mail last week from the parental units.

The Turtles - Making My Mind Up (45 Version WW 237)

I received a WHOLE bunch of records this week but a majority are yard sale fodder. However, there were some wonderful finds in the box such as tonight's post. There appears to be several stories on this one and I hope someone can straighten it out. WW issued Outside Chance twice (#234 and #237) with different "B" sides, with this one being particularly rare. I read that this particular version (237) was test marketed in the Northwest only and may have been the A side instead of Outside Chance. This version of "Making My Mind Up" is only found on this 45 as the LP version has horns (check out Youtube and decide for yourself but I will go with the 45 version anytime). This is a nice addition to my 45 collection and the sister "Outside Chance" 45 on 234.

Uniques - You Ain't Tuff

Today was Record Store Day, the national holiday for vinyl enthusiasts (geeks) like myself. I arrived an hour before the doors opened and of course it was raining and cold. I met a couple of nice guys (Daniel and Justine) and shared their umbrella with them. Once inside, I found most of the stuff I wanted but of course the REM box set was long gone.  I went to a couple more stores and finally found the Charles Bradley 12". I spent a crap load of $ but isn't that what Record Store Day is about.
For your pleasure tonight is an early 45 by the Uniques, led by future Country Music star Joe Stampley.

Mystics - Snoopy

I picked this up a month ago. From what I can gather, this was a loose cover of the Vibrations My Girl Sloopy and inspired the McCoys after they heard it. Of course the McCoys had the monster version and the Mystics are an obscure footnote

Slim Short & The Kays - Black Steer Swing

Rare blue label JCP 45. Yes, it is rough sounding.

Willie Tee - Walking Up A One Way Street

I'm still fighting this nasty crud and wish I would be just done with it. It sure has affected my motivation to post to this blog consistently. Here is a fantastic classic on promo Atlantic.

Ventures - Telstar

I've been fighting a nasty sinus infection the past 10 days. Seems like I write those words at least a few times a year. The one I'm dealing with now has been particularly nasty and kept me out of work 3 days last week. I'm starting some new medicine tonight so I am hopeful the tide will turn this week. I went to a little record show yesterday (even the misery of my sinus issues could not keep me away). Picked a few interesting things for my collection but most of the prices were over inflated. Here is the b side to the recent Ventures post- again one of those interesting Ventures reissue liberty All Time Hit Series 45's.
