Peter Jefferies - Elevator Madness / Come Down Easy

Today is a "how to lose my followers post", lol. Peter is a New Zealand legend. I first heard of Peter through Ajax Records. He started out in the group This Kind of Punishment with his brother Graeme (later of the Cakekitchen). I had become a huge fan of the Cakekitchen and Ajax records had reissued some Graeme Jefferies lp's and Peter Jefferies 45's that I purchased. Not too long afterward I was on an epic roadtrip and while at a record store in Minneapolis I found Peter's Siltbreeze LP was just released and I bought it. Peter has released very adventerous music as you can hear from this very obscure and limited 45 record. This past summer I bought a book about Peter Jefferies I found on Bandcamp. Inspired me to dig this out.

Sandy Nelson - Chop Chop / Reach For A Star

I had plans to record a bunch yesterday but it seems like nothing goes as planned lately as our washing machine quit yesterday..We had it 13 or 14 years so it had a good run. I went to Lowes and bought another one but realized when I got home it is too large and won't fit through our bathroom door. I postponed delivery and I guess I will be going back today to find another one

Rev. D.L. Bond & THe First Sharon Chorus of N.Y.C.- I Am Wiling To Wait / Some Day

Yesterday positives and negatives: Positive- picked up the 45's in Raleigh yesterday (maybe 1000) and he was right...come good and some bad . DId find a Ventures stock 45 I did not have as well as some Sir Douglas Quintet and Martin Denny. But alot that I will be sharing to my friend Doug. Negative: Another late Saturday night watching Colorado lose a game they should have won. I don't think I will be very productive today after another 4 hour sleep

The Nashville Teens - What You Gonna Do

We had our new walkin shower installed yesterrday. They will finish it up on Monday and start on the floor and the new vanity. Things are starting to come along

I have a huge one ready but it is a cover version so I am saving it....some teaser huh! I should have the stock copy of this as well so I will find it and picture it up this afternoon. Have to hit the road. A guy I buy 45s from in Raleigh has a bunch for me and he said, "Some good, some bad...come get them for free." I'm there!

Frankie Lymon - Sweet and Lovely / Somewhere

I love making Friday Soul uploads because I know the work week is at an end. Frankie Lymon was a young 1950's teen phenom and his life ended tragically at a young age due to Heroin. I believe this may have been his last proper release before his overdose death and Somewhere hit the R&B charts.

Love and Rockets - No New Tale To Tale

I have a busy work day planned (as if they all aren't busy anyway). Born from the ashes of Bauhaus (no pun Daniel Ash).  I've had the promo 45 of this for years and recently found the stock copy with picture sleeve. I used to have the promo 12" but it is one of them that went into the Bermuda Triangle of lost/stolen 12" singles I have sadly written about and now I'm going to think about it all danm day...thanks to me!

Rush - LImelight

There really has been no rhyme or reason for my posts lately...almost like next record up. I plan on another cover version week as well as a North Carolina week in the future. Today I present you with the song that introduced me to Rush. I was in high school in 1981 and was still listening to top 40 but venturing out to non top 40. My cousin had turned me on to AC/DC months before, and I remember watching some video show and they played an AC/DC video and then spotlighted this song from the recently released Moving Pictures LP. Wow! A few years ago I found the stock copy of this and then not too long afterward I picked up a promo copy. Promo copies of Rush 45's are not easy to find

Drivetrain- Time is Of The Essencce / Trains

Here is another recent pickup and I needed something loud to wake me up this morning. Tombstone Records is known for Dead Moon and I probably have most of the Dead Moon releases. This one was produced by Fred Cole from Dead Moons (and Lollipop Shoppe) fame. I remember my friend introduced me to Dead Moon when I lived in Denver and I never looked back. I hear Fred's influence on this one

Les Baxter - Atlantis

We are having a new walkin shower installed in a week so I spent more time peeling old wallpaper. I will finish that up this week and then paint. Needless to say I was dragging yesterday because of no sleep the night before. But enough of that, I offer a little exotica for this Monday morning. I bought all these 45's from a closed 1972 record store and there were tons of old 50's 45s in the sleeves. I found quite a few Les Baxter and have not taken the time to listen to them. Love me some Martin Denny so this fit right in.

The Loving Sisters - Jesus Is Enough For Me / A Blessing To Be Like The Lord

I am a Colorado Buffaoloes fan...living on the East Coast is hell when the NCAA decide to have their games on at 10:15pm Eastern Time. They won last night so that meant I probably got 3 1/2 to 4 hours of sleep if I was lucky. It looks like they are on the same time next Saturday. I beg you NCAA...have pity on this oldster!

I have said it before but I love finding Peacock 45's and I really love it when they are promos. I sure wish I could find some original Peacock sleeves for these early 45s. I saw one once in an online auction once..it was so cool. I would think I would have run into at least one in all these years of collecting

The McCoys - Beat The Clock / LIke You Do To Me

We recently lost Rick Derringer. This was a minor hit but I do have a question maybe someone can answer. I have heard other versions of this so is this the OG or was it a cover version. The world wants to know (or at least I do). I think the McCoys got a bad rap as a bubblegum type of group but they were just old fashioned good pop music.

Rex Garvin And The Mighty Cravers - Sock It To Em J.B Part 1 and 2

Yesterday was brutal....I was in nonstop webex meetings, had construction banging downstairs..hopefully they will be finished today. Friday soul brings us Rex Garvin...and to celebrate I found the mp3 for another Rex Garvin I uploaded in 2014. I recently picked up the stock copy after all these years so I took pictures of it...enjoy

The Hollies - I'm Alive / You Know He Did

I still have a little buzzing going on with the sound samples. I think it is the input into the computer and not sure if there is anything I can do to fix it right now. Once we get the new flooring installed then I will move this turntable downstairs and hook up my old one back up...that should fix the issue of buzzing.

15 years into this blog and this is my first Hollies post. WTF!! When I first started collecting 45's a zillion years ago this was the first Hollies 45 I found. This bubbled under the Billboard Top 100 which is shame..it deserved better!  I can tell you it won't be another 15 years for a Hollies upload...

Generation X - Ready Steady Go / No No No

I never really cared for Billy Idol's solo records but those Generation X 45's are a different matter! I am ready...ready to get our house in order and it starts today as I have a construction company replacing subflooring in my living room and hallway.

Tony Alvon & The Belairs - Boom - Boom - Boom / Sexy Coffee Pot

Here is another one that I have had prepared for awhile and have not had a chance to get to it. Remodeling is starting to click as I have subflooring going to be installed tomorrow, the bathroom in 2 weeks and then I can have the flooring company come in early October-Boom  Boom Boom!

The Astronauts - Competition Coupe / Surf Party

The Astronauts were one of my first posts when I started doing this. It was almost guaranteed when I lived in Denver that I would find an Astronauts LP at a thrift store or yard sale...they were that plenty. Rarely found their 45's though. I picked up a book this year on Colorado bands/records and I was disappointed that the author decided to skip more major releases like the Astronauts. They deserved better!

I updated the 1st Astronauts with the tunes and you can listen here

James Jacobs And The Mighty All Stars - God's Love /Press On

Picked up a few 45's yesterday but nothing spectacular. But what is spectacular is this 45...another killer NC gospel 45. I've had this one for at least 20 years. A side reminds me of Unchained Melody. This one is not listed on 45cat or Discogs
