Randy & The Rainbows - Why Do Kids Grow Up

I think I will raid the late 50's and early 60's on Sundays. I think this is a blantant rip off of Why Do Fools Fall In Love mixed with Denise, which was their only big hit.

The Sons Of Adam - You're A Better Man Than I

I picked this scorcher up a few weeks ago. I have a stock copy but it is pretty beat up so I was so happy to find this promo copy. It's a little noisy but not as much as my stock copy

Checkerlads- Shake Yourself Down

This is such a nice diversion for me. I'm up early to exercise, go to work, come home to study for school, maybe catch a tiny bit of tele, go to sleep, up early....etc. And of course I fit this in right before any tele. This  blog seems to be the one constant in my life that offers me a bit of stress reduction right now. I can close my eyes and listens to some cool tunes before I jump into something else. One of the joys is popping out a brilliant single that is obscure, and hoping it goes over well. This obsurcity fits the bill tonight. From what I have read, this was only available as a promo. Should have been a smash!

T.S.U. Tornadoes - Getting The Corners

Do you feel the Archie Bell influence here? And on Atlantic as well. Hit #75 on the billboard top 100 chart.

Tommy James - Nothing To Hide

Last of the spiritual based 45s that I have ready to go. I've got a whole bunch of wonderful spiritual 45's on the Peacock label but I can't seem to find them so maybe at Christmas break I will find them. This was a minor hit for Tommy in the early 70's.

The Pop Art - Rumplestiltskin

I always liked this nice little catchy singalong pop song. I find it difficult to understand why this was not all over the radio.

Barbara & The Uniques - It's Not That Easy

I was reading some of my early posts last night. I wish I had the time to write more each night but I am writing so many papers ingraduate school that I don't feel like or have time to write large posts. Maybe in 3 years when I'm graduate. Tonight we have a wonderful mid 70s soul 45.

Johnny Hallyday - Be Bop A Lula

Let's get real retro here. I picked this massive rarity a month or so ago. I think it is a real scorcher...a wonderful cover of the Gene Vincent classic.

Chains - Carroll's Gotta Cobra & I Hate To See You Crying

Here is a recent doublesided prize pickup. This is is the super rare label version with the name used in the title of the song (Carroll Shelby), who designed the Shelby Cobra Sports Car...yes, I am a collector geek......Vrrooom!

The Association - Pandora's Golden Heebie Jeebies

Wonderful 45 from the Association. I always liked them but they put out some pretty wimpy stuff. Hard to believe this was their only picture sleeve.

Miriam Makeba- Pata Pata

Let's end the work week with a great infectious mid 60s classic. The bad news on this 45 is it is cracked (you can hear the clicks) but I will find another copy some day I imagine.

The Liverpool Set - Miss You So

I had the regular store copy for a few years when I stumbled upon the red vinyl promo rarity this past year. There is no reference that it came on red vinyl. Oh, and a great song as well.

Frankie Valli - You're Ready Now

I picked this up this past weekend. Nice rarity from Frankie Valli, from the 4 Seasons. I believe this is considered a Northern Soul 45 which amazes me, but it does have a soul feel to it. This was a bubbling under the top 100 45 hitting a big #112 on the charts.

The Flame - Another Day Like Heaven

Here is an early 70's 45 produced by Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys. I believe the drummer was hired to drum for the Beach Boys in the mid 70s as well. Reminds me of Emitt Rhodes (hmm.....I need to plug his 45's in here somewhere). Needless to say, I love this 45.

Listener Request: Changin Times- Pied Piper

The final listener request for the week comes from Grant. This is the original version of Pied Piper before it was a hit by Crispin St. Peter. I like both versions but this is my favorite

Listener Request: Dave Brubeck Quartet - Take Five

My father did not have a large record collection when I was growing up, and most of it was country music. He did have a few Elvis lps, a Jan & Dean LP, a fake Beatles, and 1 jazz lp- Dave Brubeck Quartet Take Five LP. I always loved it when that album was played. I remember how excited I was when I found my own very copy at a thrift store as a teen. A few years ago I found this 45.  This is our listener request for Brian. I'm not sure if this is your cup of tea but it brings good memories to me. As a bonus, I found a couple of Youtube videos...love the drum solos. One final note, I cheated...this is the LP version, not the 45 version.

Listener Request: Peggy March- How Can I Tell Him?

I've spent the day painting our hallwall, stairs and bedroom, and putting down carpet so I'm beat. I've been on vacation this week and all week long have been working around the house (need to get my work done so I can search for records on Saturday!). So anyway, back to tonights request and we are back to Rich.

Listener Request: The Sounds Like Us - Outside Chance

Tonight's request is courtesy of Grant and his list. I had at least half of the songs on Grants list and the conundrum was which one to pick.  This is the original version, and the Turtles later released a very nice version as well. If you notice the songwriting credits, you will notice this was co-written by W. Zevon.

Listener Request: Dion & The Wanderers - So Much Younger

Our Tuesday night request comes from Rich. I have always loved Dions music, especially his Columbia releases.  I happened to have a few songs on Rich's list so we may hear another one later this week, unless I receive any other listener requests: hint hint.

Listener Request: Rally-Packs - Bucket Seats

Monday night has been my traditional surf/hot rod night. Our next listener request comes from Brian. He did not give a specific request other than wanting an instrumental song. I have many instrumentals in my collection and this was the one I decided upon. The Rally-Packs were really the Fantastic Baggy's in disguise and this is the B side. I feel this could have fit in very well in the Pulp Fiction movie. The A side is killer as well but due to vocals, will have to wait for another day in the near future. So, Brian I hope this meets with your approval

Listener Request: Boenzee Cryque - Watch The Time

Our first listener request comes from Gary. I have what I consider to be an excellent collection. I also believe I know alot about music groups. Well, Gary sent in his request list and I only had one 45, and I had not heard of many of the bands/songs. As depressing as that is, I also find it also refreshing that I have much more music to discover. Found this at Wax Trax in Denver Colorado last time I was home on a visit.
