Jefferson Airplane - Lather

Over the past few years I have developed an appreciation for quite a few well known 60's bands that I had previously ignored. For the Airplane, I don't know why I never really listened to them but a lightbulb went off in my head one day...this is good stuff.  Here is the "b" side to the minor hit (#64) "Crown Of Creation",

Rascals - Real Thing

I am a huge Rascals fan. Here is a gem of a "b" side from a minor hit after their big hit days were over. I absolutely love love love this song.

Left Banke - I've Got Something On My Mind

"b" side of a song that barely dented the charts (#98 if I remember correctly). What a brilliant song!

Donovan - Teen Angel

Our next "b" side comes to us from Donovan. The "A" side (Hurdy Gurdy Man) was a smash hit with it's heavy heavy sound, while the "b"side was perfect opposite....slow and hypnotic. I don't think Donovan really has been appreciated for the artist he was/is...I foresee more of his "b" sides making the grade in future "b" side installments.

Clique - Superman

While looking through my 45s I  realized there are a ton of great "b" sides that did not get the attention they deserved because of the hit side. I thought that would make an interesting theme week. The problem was narrowing them down to a weeks worth...we will call this weeks great b sides week 1. The main criteria I had was that the "A" side had to be a top 100 Billboard Hit. This was originally an "A" side as well as later the "b" side from Sugar On Sunday.  It is probably best known due to REM covering it eyars ago.

Peggy Paxton - It Ain't What I Do

Wanda Jackson - Funnel Of Love

I'm thinking the French girl post so far has garnered the most disgust and poor responses but I bet I can beat it....but don't worry, not tonight.

Hardtimes- Fortune Teller

I saw the PDF for the Record Store day releases and I'm going to be SOL...I'm in school on Saturdays. It really pisses me off how these limited edition releases are handled. Most of the people buy them to sell on Ebay for hundreds of dollars..yeah, I know we live in a demoncracy but I actually like listening to the things I buy and I am not out for a big profit. I really wanted the Hold Steady RSD LP but they only made 600 or so and people were selling them for big bucks on ebay last year...I just hope I can get the Sub Pop releases....ok, deep breaths...working my self into a lather. So, in this "wishful thinking" mood I've got, I've uploaded a killer cover version of the ole R&B song....this was a minor hit. Stones also did a good version.

Bob Seger System - Lucifer

I've been reading text books for about 2 hours give or take time out to feed the dogs/cats and play catch with my lab and now the diversion of tonights upload. I changed my mind regarding what I was going to upload as it was a wimpy 60's pop song. I guess I need to space those out so we won't have any fights..lol....anyway, you can never go wrong with Seger. And enjoy the youtube vid as well...listen to the interviewer...talk about square. He does not appear to have a hip bone in his body...I'm suprised he did not pee his pants when Bob said the name of the song they were singing was called Lucifer.....Well, back to the books.

Intimates - I've Got A Tiger In My Tank

Monday hot rod with a song Lou Reed co wrote...Strange to think he went from this "Beach Boys" fad to "I'm Waiting For The Man" It is unclear if he played on this.

Daily Flash - The French Girl

I spent most of the afternoon studying and I am going down quickly....of course I have been up since 5am. Here we have a Seattle band that toned it down a bit. They previously put out a rocker of a 45 on Parrot but toned it down on this release. This song sounds very familiar to me and I'm wondering if there is another version out there...ok you musicologists out there...find out the answer!

Remains - Why Do I Cry

It has been nice and warm the last few days. I'm hoping the cold days are for the most part behind us cuz the heating bill has absoulutely killed me this year. Up tonight is a classic garage 45 from the Remains.

Rupert's People - Reflections of Charles Brown

Happy St. Patrick's day. Sorry I did not prepare a shamrock day upload...hey, somedays it's all I can do to upload a song. I should have waited on the Belfast Gypsies but hey I was not thinking. Anyway,I'm too tired to coordinate mp3/pictures for uploads...plus this song feels like it fits right in with the type of day I had.

Charmettes - Please Don't Kiss Me Again

Had a headache from Hell last night so no posting. Here's a wonderful little early 60's girl group effort. I don't believe it was included on the girl group sounds 4 cd box set which is a total shame. They missed out on this catchy song.  On a side note, would love to have written feedback when a "yuck" is given of why you hated it. I expect this one to get a few but I've been surprised by some yuck's lately.

Gene Chandler - What Now

Well I broke down and bought a new car yesterday. It has satellite radio and I was grooving to Little Stevens Underground Garage. I'm hoping there is a good classic underground soul station as well. Picked up this nice one sided promo at the record show last sunday. Found a youtube video....not the best video but damn what a voice!

Love - My Little Red Book

Unbelievable that Bachrach disliked this version. I think it is the definitive version. Check out the 1st pressing stock and promo labels on these babies.
