The Kursaals - Television Generation

Woke up this morning with a terrible neck ache. I was hoping the coffee and the walk with Cooper would ease the pain but no dice. I am feeling better now but only after a hot shower pulsating on my neck, a little Yoga Nidra relaxation, excedrin and biofreeze. All before 6:30am. I may still need the tens unit before the morning is over. The car accident was over 4 years ago and I guess I am going to have days like this. But I refuse to let it impact my life. I am thankful for my life, and those in my life. I am thankful for the music I love and how it brightens my day. Take this 45...it was on my want list for some time and I scored a copy for a reasonable amount. I really have been on quite a powerpop/late 70's punk kick lately. I can put on this youtube collection of powerpop songs while I am working in my home office and let it play all day long. I sure can't use wifi at my office office to listen to that. If I could, I would blow the roof of the sucker

This great song was on a US Columbia compilation (name escapes me right now and I am too lazy to go find the LP);however, it was never given a proper US 45 release. Shame really as it is such a killer song.

Television - Ain't That Nothin

New wave Tuesday. Cooper and I went for an early morning walk thanks to my peepers opening up way too early. We did a medium walk as it was quite cold out there and now I am cookin with another nice steaming cup of coffee. To think I am rolling this morning and it is just past 6:30am. But enough about my exciting life...lol..Today we celebrate the great Tom Verlaine who we lost this past year. I always thought this was an odd release...did Elektra really expect it to do something. I think of the drivel I was listening to in 1978 and there is no way the radio stations I listened to would have probably even received a copy of this.  I am not sure why they never released any 45s in the states from their 1st LP but quite frankly it would have been just as futile as releasing this 45. I scored this promo not too long after Tom died. Once upon a time I had a white label promo of the Marque Moon LP but unfortantely sold it when we needed money. I have a reissue but quire frankly it's not as appealing as that pristine white label copy I had.

The Surfaris - Point Panic / Waikiki Run

I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend and now I guess I am ready to get back to the grind. I had planned on getting more songs ready for the old blog but I did not get as much as I wanted accomplished. Here we have a nice stock and promo copy of this fabulous Surfaris 45...you know me and my stock/promo copy obsession

Los Chatos - Las Coplas

I picked this one up the same day as the Psychotrons and I can find no reference to it. I have 3 Union Rogue 45s and they all have different labels and are pretty different so I am really unsure if they are the same label.

Paul Paree - Big Daddy / Don't You Scold Me

I hope everyone had a happy Turkey Day. We had tons of food as for the first time in years there was more than just me, the wife and the dog. With all the food choices, I stuck to Turkey, my wife's killer stuffing, and pumpkin pie. Oh, and I was forced to have green beens (my argument there was green celery in the stuffing did not wash).
Here is a Friday rarity that I have had this one for quite a while. I have seen this listed as teenybopper and rockabilly.

The American Revolution- Cold Wisconsin Nights

A little catchy pop psych for this happy Turkey Day. I have had this 45 for years and at one time I had the album but to be honest I don't know when it was no longer in my collection. I have always had a bit of an affinity for these sunshine pop 45s.

The Cure - Jumping Someone Else's Train

How about 2 punk in a row as I feel I have been on a row lately.  This one has a funny story. I had the 45 by itself at least 25 years ago. A few years ago I managed to score the Picture Sleeve by itself for little of nothing but then realized that I must have sold or traded the 45 off. . The search was on and last year I was able to score the 45. The early Cure releases are the bomb. I scored free tickets to their concert at the Fiddler's Green Amp. Theater in Denver during the Disintigration tour. We were in the box seats near the state...oh those were the days. I am looking forward when they eventually release a new album.

Scientists - Swampland

I unexpectedly ran into a mint unplayed copy of this. The song I uploaded was the B side but it is probably my favorite song of theirs. The Scientists were from Australia and their 1st 45 is worth a mini fortune. I had purchased the Scientists US Big Time LP while an undergrad (stupidly sold it years ago). My friend in Maryland also loved them and we both picked up the Sub Pop cd when it came out (still have it). This came from some collection from a closed record store stock. Unbelievable really and I would have loved to have opened those sealed boxes from so many years ago. It is an understatement that I am very pleased to have this slab in my collection.

The Rumblers - Boss / I Don't Need You No More

Keeping with the Monday Surf/car song theme I so like. This was a recent 45 sent to me recently. Been on my want list for awhile. Thanks again Jesse

Slim & The Supreme Angels

I met a gentleman a few years ago that was in a local gospel group in the 1970s . He was the sole surviving member and they had released a 45 on the Sound Hut label out of Kinston NC. He did not have a copy of his own 45 and when he contacted the label owner to try to obtain one, he found the owner had sold all the recordings and masters. I had duplicates so I met with him so he could get my duplicate.  I had picked up a bunch of LP's that morning and one of them was a Supreme Angels LP. When he saw it he said, "Slim!" We had such a wonderful conversation and he let me know that Slim was a pastor in Goldsboro NC until his death. The Supreme Angels put out a bunch of 45s and albums and in the LP I bought there was an obituary for him (not sure where it is right now but if I find it I will scan it and post it here).

The Jam - Something's Gone

I have the luxary of working from home most days and like to put youtube on and just let the music play in the background. I had some garage playlist going and this one popped up and I immediately loved it. When I started trying to find copies I found it was a bit pricey of course. Luckily I purchased this off the bay of E for a steal...sometimes deals happen. I believe this is the 1st release on Sire records and this is your father's The Jam, not my generations The Jam.

The Miracles - My Girl Has Gone

I have always liked to do a little Soul on Friday's but I have not always been prepared. It is not like I don't have some choice killers or rarities, but it seems lately I have recorded more garage, psych and punk songs. Trust me when I say that I will be overloading the uploads on those in the next few weeks. But I did manage to record one of my favorite Miracles songs. I picked this up this summer and I am pretty sure I have a stock copy somewhere. Last year I scored a sealed OG copy of a sealed copy of their Greatest Hits Vol 2 for a buck and this song is on it. And I am always on the search for the rare expensive promo Christmas Miracles 45 on Tamla...someday my friends, some day.

Psychotrons- Death Is A Dream / Unchained Melody

Cooper and I were up a bit late this morning for our walk. I woke up early and thought I have 15 more minutes, fell asleep and 45 minutes later woke up.  It was a lovely walk, had a shower and now I am sitting here with my 2nd cup of coffee. Oh, how I love coffee.

If I could look for records daily I would most likely be disappointed on a grand scale. But periodically, the search pays off and one comes away with something really special. I scored this monster Eastern North Carolina Psych 45 a few weeks back.by accident. I was at the flea market and bought a ton from a guy I always buy from. I then walked around and was getting ready to leave when I saw a guy with albums and had a small box of 45s under a table. The price was right so I just snagged the box without really looking. Once I got home I started going thorugh them and was amazed. I knew of this one but had never seen one and it is the find of the year. The box also surrendered some other obscurities that will grace this blog

The Left Banke- Dark Is The Bark / My Friend Today

I hate these morings when I wake up early and can't go back to sleep. Brewed some coffee and super duper Cooper the wonder dog and I went for our morning walk. After a shower, I recorded a few songs for the blog. This one is for Jesse. I have all the 60's Left Banke 45's but I am missing a few as promos and a few as stock copies...me and my compulsive self.

The Saints - Lipstick On Your Collar

Punk, Post Punk Tuesday. When I was an undergrad in the 1980's I purchased the Saint's 2nd LP on Sire at a flea market. I didn't really appreciate it like I should have and eventually allowed it to depart from my collection..I now ask myself WHY WHY WHY. This song is often played on Little Stevens Underground Garage and the 45 has been on my want list for years until I picked it up in an online auction on hibid. While I am happy to finally have it, the shipping cost was RIDICULOUS which made a good deal bad. I should have known better from that seller. I won a few 45s from them a few years back and the same ridiculous shipping cost. I have blocked their emails and received an automatic email for feedback on why I no longer wanted their emails and I told them why.

A little side note. I have this one organized on the side as The Saints (punk) to keep it seperated from the Eastern NC soul group The Saints.

The Avantis - Wax Em Down / Gypsy Surfer

Had plans for uploading over the weekend but lost track of time. I picked up some albums, a box of 45's and some speakers on Saturday. I missed out on the speakers years ago at an estate sale as I guy I knew bought them. He died last year and his wife was selling some of his stuff and she graciously sold them to me for what he paid for them. The LP's and 45's also came from him.

Monday's surf offering is a 45 I picked up from my friend in Maryland. I stayed with him for a few days probably in 2008 or 2009 and this beauty found its way in my collection. Its been patiently waiting it's turn for the spotlight

P. P. Arnold - The First Cut Is The Deepest

I do love the hunt. There is something about it that gets me excited. Will I find that grail today? Will I find anything. I see people post their finds on facebook and most times it is so underwhelming..a common 45 that looks like it was dragged behind a semi. I never say anyting...I mean, they are juiced about it and who am I to take away from their enthusiasm.

Today's 45 is one that has been on my want list for years and I finally scored an inexpensive copy this past summer from my new source. PP Arnold was the female voice behind The Small Faces Toy Soldier..it does not get better than this

Ognir and the Nite People - I Found A New Love / All My Heart

Knock another one off the old want list. I paid more for this then I really wanted to but it's alright. I bought this from a newer record source I have been buying from since around February. I have picked up tons of killer 45s for a dollar from him so it is only fair to send him more money for this killa 45. Matter of fact I have several more from my want list coming from him in the next week....Keep them coming!

The Records - Starry Eyes

Wednesday night power pop. I find it incredible I have never posted this. What a classic powerpop 45. It has it all, hooks, lyrics and just brings out this feeling of  musical superiority. This should have been a smash but the American public tends to have no taste, possibly due to little exposure to quality. There is a guy on facebook that will post the billboard charts from 40 years ago and I look at the drivel that was played on the radio (I remember it well and at the time enjoyed and purchased the drivel).  But I recognize I gravitated to towards music like this when I discovered in my late teens there was other music besides the top 40. There was this station in Colorado Springs that would play obscure stuff after 10pm. That was a rebirth musically for me. I continue to discover powerpop 45s that I had no clue about and of course my want list includes pricey ones. Regarding the Records, I love their records. I always buy this when I find it and I think I have 3 or 4 copies of this including a stock copy.

Steve Earle - Guitar Town

I had to go to the doctor yesterday for a steroid shot in my elbow. I have had this nasty bursitis for the past week and half (of course in my dominant arm) and it has impacted my sleep, and it was starting to impact my grip. Hell, it was painful to use a stapler. Felt much better last night and went to bed early and slept pretty well even with being awake for an hour in the middle of the night. But my mind is in a good place after a nice walk with Cooper and enjoying my 2nd cup of coffee.

Steve Earle is one of those artists that has some good songs that are just fantastic, but to be honest I don't have alot of his albums.  I guess I have never fully committed. I picked up the Guitar Town LP this past year and was pleasantly surprised how impressive it was. In August a friend referred me to this individual that had 6000 radio stations 45s. I had dreams of 60's rock and soul but instead looked through 6000 country 45's with a few rock. I was disappointed but I did pick up some Christmas 45s and I was happy to pick this up this up as well as a few other Steve Earle 45s'.

Years ago I asked listeners to suggest songs or artists they would like to hear and If I have them I would post them (45's only please). I have so many 45s and I am intersested to see what I receive.

Ronny And The Daytonas - Little Scrambler

Monday blog posts have been traditionally surf or hot rod. Why change. Nice Jan and Dean sound from the midwest

Flies On Fire Baptize Me Over Elvis Presley's Grave

Stayed up late to watch the Colordo game (another bummer). I would be dragging more this morning if it was not for moving the clock back. Cooper and I were up for walk as usual and I have been guzzling coffee. Just finished my Church programs and I am ready to roll.

I hope this posting is not sacreligious but I did not have a gospel 45 ready. I remember hearing this all over the radio back in the day. Easy to find and inexpensive.  I picked up a few gospel 45s yesterday at the flea market (along with some other killer stuff including an expensive Psych 45).

The Scotsmen - Down and Out

I went to the flea market and cleaned up today. I bought a ton from a guy I know and then was about to leave found a guy with a box of 45's....2 for a buck. The guy said he had 2500 more so I got his card. Today's upload is an obscure NC 45...wish I had the Picture Sleeve to go along with it.

Peter Noone- Should I

I picked this one up this summer only because I always loved Herman's Hermits. I have heard some of Peter's solo records and they did not do much for me; however, this one is very catchy. It appears from my limited research that this was a promo only and they never pressed up stock copies. How weird is that.

The Stranglers - No More Heroes

From light and fluffy yesterday to buzzing aggressiveness today. I have been pulling out those old Stranglers albums lately, and to me they were important in my punk awareness, and helped shape the music I have come to love and appreciate . I never lost the love of fluff pop (yesterday), oldies or soul but just added another layer to who I am.  I have written how I spent food money in college on a bunch of Stranglers records, and just recently I scored a promo copy of the Stranglers Black and White LP on marbled vinyl even though I had a stock copy on marbled vinyl. What is this obsession sometimes with having different variations? I don't know but I am who I am. I have picked up quite a few Stranglers 45's over the past 6 months that I did not have (and a few I later realized I did...lol). I have had this classic for awhile and I love the subtle minimalistic picture sleeve

The Free Design- Kites Are Fun

I picked up 50 45's with one being an interesting NC Funk 45. I also picked up some Latin lp's this past weekend (and a Pretty Things LP) that are on the playlist in the home office. Oh, and the new Allah-Las LP that arrived in the mail Monday. I have a pile of 45's to record and listen to for the weekend. Also something else cool. I found a link to a website that listed the 30 Best Obscure Music Blogs and Websites and my blog was #19...Way Cool https://music.feedspot.com/obscure_music_blogs

To celebrate, I thought I would upload an breezy little slice of fun.  Life is Good
