The Frantics - Werewolf
And now for our Halloween finale. I was heavy on the instrumentals this week.

The Squalls - Bride Of Frankenstein
Tomorrow night is Halloween and I will post one my faves, which my parents brought me in a big box of records at the start of October. How cool is that! I've searched for it for over a year and then boom, it lands in my hands.
Tonight is a departure for me as this 45 is from the early 80s. I learned about the Squalls after watching a documentary on the Athens GA music scene. Found this a few years ago and it fits our monster filled motif for the week.

Crazy World Of Arthur Brown - I Put A Spell On You & Nightmare
Here is a pretty good version of the Screaming Jay Hawkins classic. And I've added a youtube clip of the orginal wildman himself....actually I went a little hog wild with I Put A Spell on you versions. And I found a clip of Nina Simone which should make my wife happy!

The Green Slime - The Green Slime
The week is flying by and I have more Halloween songs ready than time will permit. So, what do I post and what do I hold for next year? Tonight we go with a rare offering on the MGM label with the wickedly cool picture sleeve.

Barbara Lewis - Straighten Up Your Heart
Lost track of time due to studying and trying to fix our TV (sound went out but I somehow fixed the big ole heavy heavy heavy monster). I think it is time for a new TV. Tonight we have the sweet sounds of Barbara Lewis. Here is a very nice promo that I picked up in the last month.

Countdowns - She Works All Night & Skies Will Be Happy To See You
I am amused by the yuck responses for some songs. I have a wide range of musical interests and I can guarantee that I have more yucks to come. But I also have some that will be rave about. I upload only songs that I like, with not all of them in my opinion being fantastic but just good or real nice slices of pop or soul. Sometimes I am suprised by no feedback on singles I think are fantastic. Tonight is another one that I feel is fantastic....guess time will tell.

Billy Daniels - Woe, Woe, Woe
I had recorded many 45s, and took pictures of the labels/sleeves during my summer break. But alas, I seem to be running short of my usual fare of soul, instrumental, hot rod/surf 45s that are ready to go. My studying takes a front seat and I just don't have the time to record some more. I plan on catching up over Christmas break. For now, enjoy this nice early 60s soul 45

The Back Alley - Soda Pop Man
This always reminded me of the Beatles. I could hear John Lennon singing this.

Idle Race - Here We Go Round The Lemon Tree
I debated what to list tonight. Did I want to go sunshine pop, or organ garage, maybe a little baroque pop...bounced several songs around but ultimately Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood won out. I picked this gem up a few years ago and I just absolutely love it.

The Sparkles - The Hip
Ah, had another good day. Picked up a few LP's and 45's that are not in the spirit of this blog (Superchunk's new LP (Brilliant by the way), No Age new LP, Nothing Painted Blue 45, New Pornographers 45). All good things must end as tomorrow I have to go back to work.
Tonights offering is from the Sparkles. Not the more famous songs they put out but a great little raver none the less.

Julie London - Louie Louie
Yes, I'm in a devilish mood. I have no idea what Liberty or Julie was thinking when they worked this song up but...well, it works...at least for me. And if you think this is weird, you shoul hear her version of Yummy Yummy Yummy. I picked both 45s up at the same time. I believe they were her last Liberty 45s.

Rokes - Let's Live For Today
Yep, no posting last night. I was a bit tired from all the running around yesterday. Found no 45s whatso ever but did pick up a couple of early Bob Seger LP's (including Brand new morning his first solo lp still in shrink wrap) and a weird christmas cd. Tonight we have the original version of Let's Live For Today, which the Grass Roots had a monster hit with.

Bobby Vee - Here Today
This is a pretty nice version of the Brian Wilson classic. By the time Bobby Vee put this out his popularity was on the decline and his hit days were over. I imagine he put this out in an attempt to be hip. It did not chart and I think it is an obscure gem.

Robert Parker - A Little Bit Of Something (Is Better than A Whole Lot of Nothing)
Well I'm pressed for time. Had a crappy day, I've been working on my paragraph for my group research project and it now after 10pm. My blog write up matches the song title... "A Little Bit Of Something (Is Better than A Whole Lot of Nothing)

Carrot Tree- Dum Dum & Circus Time
So I was thinking about the sorry sparse writing lately. Its not that I don't want to be creative, its that I am pressed for time. Tonights 45 is a weird one indeed. One side fuzz/circus lights and the 2nd side bubblisious bubblegum. I know nothing about this group but I have seen it on a few record store sites for fifty bucks.

Young Rascals - Groovin (Italian & Spanish)
I finished my paper for class tomorrow, and I can truly say I am really enjoying this class. How about a few rare versions of an obscure 45 to celebrate. How many out there were aware this US 45 existed?
