The Drifters - Come On Over To My Place

I bought this double LP this year of Beach Music and this song was on it. I had never really paid attention to it before and immediately fell in love with it. So, one day I am digging in my boxes of 45's not in my database nd to my amazement I had these copies. They are now filed in my database and in my keeper boxes.

The Happenings - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Here is a nice obscure Promo Christmas 45 from the Happenings. I guess gone are the days where I upload 12 Christmas songs but at least it is a good one.  I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas

Procol Harum - The Devil Came From Kansas

Finished my walk this morning and thought I would do a quick pre-work upload. I quit giving out candy years ago for Halloween and I sure don't want to see swarms of individuals roaming the streets like they are from the Walking Dead. Procol Harum told us the Devil Came From Kansas. I'm glad I missed him the numerous times I have travelled through Kansas. I almost moved to Lawrence Kansas to go to graduate school but my future wife said she wasn't moving to Kansas. I remember a time when my friend Craig and I camped out in Lawrence Kansas. for a few days. Visiting the Love Garden Record shop during the day, checking out the University.  I often think back and wonder if we had searched out William Burroughs if he would have invited us in for coffee, or would he have pulled out a gun and waved us away.

Lou Ragland I Travel Alone / Big Wheel

I took the day off but what I planned to do fell through so I guess it is yard work. But first things first. I thought I would upload a soul 45. At one time when I was more disciplined I have Soul 45 Fridays. Now I upload infrequently. But I picked up this killer 45 last week. Unfortunately the vinyl looks like it has seen better days. The B side (Big Wheel) looks like it went through a cheese grader so i am surprised it played as well as it did.

Phunk - Vain River/Thought

Here is a cool North Carolina obscurity

Linda Hawley - Use Your Head /Enough Of A Woman

Here is a local Modern Northern Soul or rather North Carolina Beach 45 and it appears autographed. This one has grown on me lately. I see this one quite often but of course Excalibur at one time was here in the small town I live in

Keith Green - Girl Don't Tell Me

Up early for my morning walk. I try to get 5,000 steps in first thing in the morning...I have my phone, headphones and Sirius XM on the ole phone...oh and the essential big, I mean big cup of coffee and off I go. I get home, shower, make more coffee, feed the cats and I have time for myself before work. This morning I had time to upload this post. I recorded some 45s yesterday but ran out of time to post. Today's song has been on my want list for some time and I am glad I finally scored a copy. This one arrived in the mail on Friday. This cool cover of a Beach Boys song was released in May of 1965 which means Keith was only 11 a the time. Man does he nail it. Of course it went no where as did none of his other 1960's releases. In the 70's he became a very successful Christian singer and songwriter only to be tragically killed in a plane crash when he was 28.

Greg Kihn - Sorry

It seems like this happens all the time. I hear a song, fall in love with it and then when researching it, find I already have it...in this case 2 copies in fact. I had picked up some Greg Kihn lp's over the past few months, including a coup that were sealed. Of course I opened them and have been playing the crap out of them. I just flipped out over this song and of course realized it was the B side of a 45 I had 2 copies of that I doubt I ever played. This song is light years better than the A side cover and is right in the power pop style that I have been grooving on recently. I have more Greg Kihn 45's that will grace this blog in the future

U2- Sunday Bloody Sunday

Oh the memories this song brings to me. The LP War was released during my senior year in high school and this song exploded out of the radio. Why it was never released as a 45 during that time is a mystery to me as I am sure it would have been huge. I remember buying WAR on vinyl and taking it my girlfriends house to listen to it. Still my favorite U2 album. This 45 was put out a few years after the release of War and features a live version of Gloria on the b side (although the label says it was on October)

Dusty Springfield - Breakfast in Bed

Nothing like being a wake since 3am. Quite ridiculous so I decided to get up and spin some 45's. I recorded Dusty last week..not one to just lay in bed or have breakfast in bed. Picked up the stock copy in the radio station buy years ago and the promo is a recent acquistion. I also recently picked up a nice copy of her Memphis Lp.

The In-Men LTD Take A Look At My Baby / The One Who Really Cares

I really had intended to upload more this past week but too many things on the proverbially plate. So let's rejoice in this recent find to add to my Pyramid collection. Found this beauty in the wild a few weeks back. Fantastic

Soul Generation - Ray Of Hope

l have been on little roll, a little streak, a little something I guess. I figured since I was cleaning and listening to a whole mess of 45's I might as well record some. So tonight we have something that was buried in the boxes of 45's that I am still going through. I always loved the Rascals and their version is killer (and on this blog as well).  We all need a Ray of Hope in these weird times. This is a natural fit for the Soul Generation and a treat to my ears

J.J. Stately - Another Saturday Night

Another Saturday Night and I don't need nobody else but my wife (and she says, "You better!). Pretty Good cover version

Della Humphrey- Don't Make The Good Girls Go Bad

It's been a while since I did a sweet soul Friday. Would someone tell me why this was not a smash hit.

Butlers - She Tried To Kiss Me / The Sun's Message

I picked this killer 45 up last October. It's been in the "to listen" box...finally got to it today and WOW...what a killer doublesider I just had to upload.

Cliff Langley - It's Hard To Get Along Without You / As Long As You Care

Here is another killer 45 that I picked up over the past year

The Del-Larks - Out Of The In Crowd

Here is a monster that I picked up over the past year. The B side is a killer Surf 45.

Ron Wood - I Can Feel The Fire

Found a couple of these a few years ago in big lot of 45's I purchased. Mick is prominent vocally and Bowie chimes in. Pre Stones.

The Reactions - Tomorrow's Time Today

I took the day off from work and I needed the break. There is an exhibit at the History Museum on Beach Music that I have wanted to see. It also gave me the opportunity to hit a few thrift stores and record stores that I have not been to in a few years.  I found  a few things but ended up experiencing one of my HUGE Pet Peaves. Went to one store and there were a few 45s not priced. The clerk started doing the old DISCOGS search for prices, and just for grins let's price at the top of what is selling (not what it has sold for). I have no problem with you wanting to keep the item in the store because not one will pay that price, that but do that SH*T and price it before you put it out. I see that more and more and I am quite likely not to visit those stores again. I shouldn't have to get stressed out on a day off! So let's have us some great pop on the St. Valentine label out of Ohio. I recommend all the Reactions 45's and the Homestead EP which is essential. I have many on this label and highly recommend it

Herman's Hermits - Ooh She's Done It Again

I admit there has always been a place in my collection for Herman and the Boys. One of the first albums I ever picked up as a wee lad was their On Tour LP and the Best of Vol 2. This was one of their last US 45's and it sank like a brick (A side made it to a whopping 131 on the Billboard Bubbling under chart, while this as the B side, and in my frank opinion 1000% better than the A side. As I was preparing this, it occurred to me that I have long neglected good ole Herm and I guess I will have to fix that

Nick Lowe - So It Goes

I knocked another one off the old want list. It's not pricey or rare but it's killer pop. I have plenty to go for the old blog but have had alot going on that has kept my priorities elsewhere. Family health issues in March, then had to put our beloved Bentley to sleep 1 week shy of his 14th birthday, then broke my finger. March was 2020 in one month.

Tuff Darts - Who's Been Sleeping Here

I thought I would start the week out with a killer Powerpop 45. I find it difficult to believe this is not more in demand and is really cheap considering the prices for some of the Sire 45's out there (see Ramones from last week). I found their LP this past year and one can pick it up for hardly anything

Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs - Thunder N Lightnin

I picked this beauty up the same time I picked up the Say I am/What I am 45's back in 2018. I always see Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs 45's but they are always the same ones---Sugar Shack, Daisy Petal Pickin, Bottle of Wine. I never see the mid 60's Dot 45's anywhere and they are some of his finest

Ramones - I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend

Ah, the frenzy of an auction. I ran across this online record auction that was being held from the collection of this late 50's early 60's teen recording artist. It started last night (lp's and 78's) and ended tonight (45's). There were some real nice 45's offered but the prices were more than I wanted to pay. I did win some 60's Motown picture sleeves and some Jan and Dean 45's and Picture Sleeves (was missing 2 of them) which will be real nice for the 45's I have. I have a few more bids out there. I am pretty sure they are going to sock the hell out of me for "time spent packing, shipping materials and cost of shipping." But what the hell..

I mentioned last week I have been on a powerpop kick...While the Ramones were punk, they also were powerpop. And yes, I probably paid a buck for this

The Minders- Listen the Bugle Calls

A little Tuesday Prework upload. I was in slo mo this morning and did not get on the treadmill- which means at some point today I will need to on it...damn!

This 45 came from the CARA club release from 2020. I joined the club pretty much for just a few of the releases and have been pleasantly surprised by the 45s. I had never heard of the Minders and I definitely need to hear more from them after this...reminded me of the Apples In Stereo

Gary Lewis And The Playboys - Hayride

How about a little sunshine music after all the heavy ones last week. I picked this one up last summer. What is funny is that I bought this big lot of 2000 45's from a connection and there must have been 4 or 5 copies of the stock copy in the lot. Have had the promo for a while
