Chris Wilson - All The Joy

I had a pretty good week but busy as usual. Went looking for records but came up short. Here is a nice little rarity for your listening pleasure. As usual, I love those promo Columbia 45s

Royal Guardsmen - Snoopy's Christmas

Merry Christmas. I hope everyone had a wonderful day. Let's end our celebration with a novely song shall we. The poor Royal Guardsmen were painted into the novely band box but they actually had some songs that were very well done. Unfortunately, those songs were not pushed as much as the Snoopy songs. I am love the Laurie label and also love picture sleeves. The Laurie label put out few picture sleeves and this 45 is significant in that it is the last picture sleeve Laurie put out.

The Drifters - The Christmas Song

How about another R&B Christmas song

Friday, December 23, 2011

Tex Beneke, Ray Eberle, The Modernaires, with Paula Kelly

Here is another unusual xmas 45 I found. Columbia loved the color vinyl 45's and put out some nice ones by the Byrds, Dylan, Dion, ect. But I think I have seen more like these that you can find anywhere. Normally I don't like them, but this one has a classy jazz feel to it.

Nelson Young- Christmas Time Is Near

Every year I put together a Christmas CD and give it out to friends, co-workers, and school mates. I am often asked months in advance about the CD and it is always a mixture of oldies, punk, hillbilly country, soul and very rarely does it have a traditional version/song heard on the radio. Well, this year I recyled, or rather came up with a "best of " and gave out to classmates and to the staff where I did my field placement. I just did not have time to tape 45's into the computer this year. I am always on the look out for Christmas 45's and always discover a new gem I did not know of. I don't know if anyone else will think this one is a gem but I picked it sometime over the past year. Don't know anything about the artist, label but I thought it was pretty cool.

Flirtations - Christmas Time Is Here Again

OK, so I've bummed off a bit. Had planned to do a whole week of Christmas but alas, I had a bit of a slow start. Here is a good one to make up for my laziness.

Monotones - When Will I Be Loved

Wow, it has been a few weeks. I've been absolutely exhausted. But my field placement and my other class are finished for the semester (both A's by the way!). So, I will probably get slowly back into this. I have some vacation coming so I plan on taping and scanning. So, now is the time to send me your wish list while I have a chance to dig into my collection.

Warlocks - I'll Go Crazy

I had planned on uploading something over the weekend but was quite beat. I'm not saying I'm more energetic tonight but I'm missing the blog. Here is a nice little garage cover of a James Brown classic.

The Gentle Soul - Tell Me Love

I had a pretty good week but busy as usual. So very little time for music. I put in for vacation around Christmas so I am looking forward to a break to relax, do some things around the house and copy some music. As usual, love the Columbia promo 45s and picture sleeves.

Guilloteens - Don't Let The Rain Get You Down

I was in a much better mood the rest of the week and that was good. I hate being grumpy. Here is a good two sider. Plan uploading the other side here soon....as well as some of their Columbia 45's.

John Guess - Up From The Sea

I was somewhat of a grumpy fokker today...think it's a combination of too much work/school/internship/not enough sleep. I also miss these uploads. I found this in a box of records I have had for several years but had not paid much attention to until I went through again recently.

Music Explosion - I See The Light

How about another Laurie single...this time the "b" side. Sorry for the infrequent updloads but this has been a busy semester in school.

Marauders - Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind

What can you say to describe this one....uh, CLASSIC!

Country Gentlemen - Saturday Night

Had the day off from school so I hit some garage sales with my friend Jim. We had some luck towards the end of the morning and found 2 sales with a bunch of soul 45s that we snagged. Tomorrow I'm back to the grind with reading I need to do, as well as prepare for class next week. Tonights offering was from my auction winning a few weeks back.

Pat Lewis - Let's Go Together

Here is one I picked up at the auction last week. The stolen lot was full of killer stuff like this.

Stained Glass- A Scene In Between

I had another busy week but it was a good week...well, except for the horrible feelings some evil record collector out there brough out in me. Here is the story, there was a local auction last Saturday that had 3 lots of 45's. I went by on Friday and there was some killer stuff in the lot...a bunch of early to mid 60's soul and garage promos. I left bids as I had class on Saturday. Found out on Monday I won all 3 lots...Yippie, right! Well, I go to pay and the first problem was the invoice, as it had me also winning a lot of Elvis 45s (did not bid), a lot of Elvis LP's (did not bid), and a lot of lp's that sold for $50 (did not bid). I pay without paying attention to the invoice. They unlock the case and I realize that one of the lots (with the really really really good 45's) are not there. The owner comes and we relook at the invoice where I notice all these other items listed to me. I pointed out that (a) I had only left 3 bids with him for the 3 lots of 45's (b) One of the lots (the damn good one) is missing (c) the supposed Elvis 45s, lps, and other lot of lp's are also missing. So, somehow someone managed to not pay for items and leave with at least 40 45's and 75 lps. Seems some other person won the other 7 or 8 boxes of of lps. The owner was going to look into it and call to see if the person picked up the box of 45's by mistake, but I doubt they will show up. I love records as you can tell, but I would never take or try to take things I did not win. Well I hope the person enjoys them.

Lovin Spoonful - She Is Still A Mystery

This was a May 2011 post and I somehow updated it as tonight?

I had to fight not to upload another cover version for tonight. I need to save them for cover version week, whenever I do that again. So in the meantime, how about some more catchy pop. The Lovin Spoonful are one of those bands that are for the most part "fluffy" but damn if they did not put out some catchy lovely songs. Here is one of their overlooked songs if you ask me.

Travel Agency - What's A Man

Has it really been a week? Exhaustion was my middle name last week, and it will change to dead tired this week. I liked both sides but decided on this one. Any thoughts?

Buck Owens- Gonna Have Love & Only You

Bought another car this week...nice to have XM radio again. Wonder if there is an old country station....that would be cool.

Gary Knight - The World 2,000

My field placement and long work hours are cutting into my blog but such is life until December. Here is a weird one

Saturday, September 10, 2011

Del Shannon - Thinkin It Over

I'm surprised by many things when looking at discographies. For instance, no US picture sleeves were released for the classic Kinks 45s from the 60's and early 70s. And this is the only Del Shannon PS on a 60s US release. Del had no success on Liberty and yet some of his 45s on this label are some of his finest.

Little Grant's & Eddie - Rudy's Dead

Wow, can't believe it is Friday and I have not had a chance to post anything. I have a super busy week, and I expect life to be this busy through December.  Here is a late 60s single featuring Eddie Grant (remember "Electric Avenue".
I have also updated my other blog Sonic Paraphenalia with some Ramones

Tradewinds - I Believe In Her

Not as catchy as their minor hit but it has a Beach Boy's Pet Sounds vibe to me that I really like.

Sunday, September 04, 2011

Arthur Smith and his Crackerjacks - SHHH

I should have uploaded something last night but watched Colorado get beat by Hawaii instead..bummer. ECU lost as well so only my undergrad alma mater, CSU won. Here is a fun little 45 I found yesterday and enjoyed it so much I had to take time to upload it.

The Sants - Leaving You Baby

Well I have had a busy week as I thought but I feel really good about it. Hate that I'm too tired to upload nightly. Hate that I won't be able to scrounge for records for the next 3 months.

The Outcasts - Set Me Free

Well we lost power for 27 hours but overall the storm was not too bad for us with just some downed limbs and leaves. I start my hectic work/field placement schedule tomorrow so I am hoping to do at least 2-3 postings during the week.

The Live Wires - The Mask

Hopefully I will have power and cable tomorrow night so I can post. I am not expecting the winds to be as bad for us as it looks like the hurricane may make landfall about 100 miles from us.

American Breed- Don't Forget About Me

Well looks like we are going to have us a Hurricane. If the track continues as they predict then I will "enjoy" tropical force winds on Saturday as we are east of the I-90 corridor. I've experienced wind gusts up to 80 mile an hour before and it is no picnic. But it is much worse at night!.
Missed last night as my wife was in a car accident (she is just fine) but she totaled my new Toyota. Cars can be replaced but people can't. The car was a mangled mess and I have only one word for her surviving the wreck and walking out of the hospital with cuts and bruises...GOD!

Cyntriks - Missy

Hit the beach today. Waves were a bit rough...I imagine due to the Hurricane that is possibly coming our way, which I sure hope does not. It has been awhile since one has hit us and I can tell you it is not a fun experience in the middle of the night.
Here is a NC garage 45.

Kinks- I'm Not Like Everybody Else

Ok Brian, better late than never

Sunday, August 21, 2011

Tony Kingston - I Am The Preacher

I miss gospel Sundays but I've run very low on gospel 45s. This is a recent find......indulge me!
