International Submarine Band Sum Up Broke & One Day Week

Great double sided 45 I searched forever for. I picked this up the same day I found the Born In Chicago 45 from the Blue Beats. I don't know why Columbia never released more as this is brilliant.

Bo Gentry & Ritchie Cordell - Love Is Here

These guys had hit singles with Tommy James but could not come up with one of their own. Shame as this is a nice little slice of popsike bubblegum. I picked this up at a Goodwill in Colorado Springs for a dime about 7 years ago. Ah, those were the days!

Early 45 from the Yellow Payges before they were on Uni. They never made a big splash but they put out some fine 45's and 1 LP.

The GTO's - Girl From New York City

I'm listing this on Wednesday Soul night as Manship has this listed as Soul? I guess it sounds a little soulful, but it also has a twinge of Beach Boy harmonies...oh wait, Brian Wilson wrote it...guess it should have a Beach Boy sound.

For tonight, a little early 70s rock.

Hog Heaven - Prayer

Tommy James & The Shondells took a break in 1970. During the break, the Shondells recorded under the name Hog Heaven. A very underrated album that is fairly easy to find and well worth buying. I picked up my copy when I was 11.

August 1st -7th Listener request week

I thought I would dedicate August 1st through the 7th as a listener request week. I think by now, everyone has a good idea I like just about every type of 60s music, from garage, soul, psych, top 40, teen, girl group, etc. So post to me requests of artists, songs, record labels. If I have it, I will post it.

By the way, today is Nelson Mandela Day. Take time to learn about this remarkable Human Rights Champion.

"During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white
domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." Nelson Mandela, from his 1964 I Am Prepared To Die speech.

Johnny Carver Think About Her All Of The Time

I figure I will get a few "yuck's" out of this one, but I love this song. I am not a big country music fan, but I have come to appreciate some early country. I love Del Shannon and this is another example of a fantastic song he wrote. I don't think he ever recorded it but I can almost here his version in my head.

Isley Brothers Summer Breeze

This is one of the earliest songs I remember hearing on the radio (of, course the version I was familiar with was the original by Seals & Croft). Found this within the last year and was amazed at the good version the Isley Brothers did..no "Shout" on this one.

Jay & The Americans Lets Lock The Door

I thought I would throw a few suprises in this week, stray a little bit from my usual fare. Tonight's installment is a great little early 60s pop song from Jay and The Americans. What a nice shiny promo this is!

Untouchables 60 Minute Man

Nice version of the old Dominos song. Sad story, yesterday while looking at records at a local store I found a broken Dominos 60 Minute Man 78. Not that I buy 78s very often, but its always the R&B 78 that is broken and not the Bing Cosby.

Sunrays Loaded With Love

Ok, so I missed last night. I was working on my first paper for my second class and completely spaced my posting. Almost forgot tonight as a matter of fact. The Sunrays were managed by Murray Wilson, father of Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys. They were well known as a surf group, but this is sure a soulful number.
