Binky Griptite - Stone Soul Christmas

I only recorded a few Christmas 45's this year. Here is an interesting B side

Ken Williams Baby If You Were Gone & Come Back

Here's a killer double sided 45 uploaded by request. I recorded the B side first as I think that is the raver everyone digs but I kinda like the ballad A side..go figure

One of my faves and finally found a copy of the promo Clapton 45 with the promo exclusive sleeve.  The recorded version is the Derek and the Dominos version

Bobby Green and the Sportsmen- Little Heart Attacks

I am sitting here drinking coffee and getting ready for the work day in my home office. I am fortunate that I can do work at home but I do prefer my office. I went to the office yesterday and the building was empty...weird to see that. So after 45 minutes on the treadmill this morning, a nice hot shower and my mind wandering to all the things I need to do today. One of the things that popped in the ole noggin was how I have neglected this blog. I am not sure where November went. I had plans for this blog...had recorded more 45s, took pictures and next thing I know it is the holiday season. Oh my I have Christmas songs but have not recorded them....I must get busy. But first things first. Upload this, fix another cup of coffee and get rolling on work and prepare for the webinar..

So here is a nice local bopper. I've purchased some cool 45s in Elm City before but did not find this one there. If you are driving through Elm City...don't blink or you will miss it!

Screamin Jay Hawkins - I Hear Voices

Wow, crazy day. I went to an organized auction but they had what I imagine is over 4000 lp's and a few thousand 45s. I waited all day but I got them. There is lots of obscure bands and I have yet to look at them. A few killer lp's like Bo Diddleys 1st Lp. I filled my truck up and now what to do with them. Guess I will be cleaning out the shed

Tonight is a recent pickup

The Jam - In The City

Well Saturday went without a hitch although I did not get the Mingus LP. They had 1 copy and the guy in front of me picked it up. I don't think he wanted it but overheard me ask the owner if they had any. I then heard him ask for a record mailer. They also did not have the Strum & Thrum comp but I think I have tracked down one of those.

Tonight I post one of my all time faves. It took me years to find a copy of this and it was an elusive stock US copy with the Picture Sleeve. Promos seem to be easier to find but I am still trying to find me a promo that is affordable. The Jam were pretty much over by the time I discovered them back in the 80's. Very underappreciated here in the states!

Renaldo Domino - Never Thought

Another COVID19 Friday....Saturday means creeping out into the public to Record Store Day. I have an 8am appointment (love the reservations) so I should get the few things I am looking forward to tomorrow. I'm looking forward to the Verlaines LP, the Charles Mingus LP (can't believe I don't have that one). I'm also considering the Church Gold Afternoon Fix, The Bob Mould LP, The Who live LP and the American Jangle Underground LP. Who knows, may even get brave and venture out elseware. I mean, I know I need to go to Target to get my Dog his food as he is picky and likes only a certain brand that Target carries.

Tonight I am sharing a new 45 I ordered last month. I found a copy of a Renaldo Domino mid/late 60's 45 on Smash (unfortunately it is cracked but it plays). I loved it and when searching found out he put this out last year. What a voice. How did this guy never make it big. I say support him and order it from Happy As A Lark records.

Dave "Baby" Cortez - Count Down

It feels like the old days when I posted daily. Humpday is the official day for the "count down" to the weekend. Ok, I know that was cheap but I'm in a cheezy mood. I did my happy dance today as I worked out of my office. I feel so much better when I am at my "real" office and not my "home" office. I plan on going in weekly...it's a ghost town at work so why not. But for the mean time, enjoy the other side of last night's post

Dave "Baby Cortez" - Summertime

Another recent pick up. The weather still feels like summertime but I know that will change soon.

The Romancers - Take My Heart

Here is a recent pickup...a bit noisy but choice. I love it when these little gems fall into my hands so unexpectedly.

Danny Dell and the Trends - Froggy Went A Courting

I spent some of the day today relaxing and recording a mess of 45s for the blog. I'm uploading tonights post a little earlier than I had planned but I'll save the Peacock Gospel 45 for next week. Reminds me of something the CRAMPS might of recorded

THECYCLE- GOD

I purchased a new needle for my turntable a few months ago. This weekend I was careless and bent the damn thing...quite an expensive lesson. But you have to love Amazon...order and it shall be delivered fairly quickly. The cartridge I had was a Shure 97X (I think) and they discontinued it. I had found a reproduction and bought it but I don't think it was as good as the original. I was not exactly happy with it but it was pricey so I just dealt with it...that is until I bent the damn thing. After doing a little research I decided to return to the Audio-Technica world and purchased an AT-VM95ML. I sure hate adjusting these things but played 2 45's and the sound is sweet. So hopefully I can avoid being a klutz.

I had previously written that I have recorded quite a bit to post and yes I am as slow as all get out. Monday through Friday I am holed up in my isolation at home. On Saturdays I venture out mask on face and do my best job at crate digging, and I can say that in the last few months of this national health disaster I have had me some luck. I have found some particularly cool 45s and I found tonight's 45 to be pretty interesting.

Time for my public service announcement. Today is the 1st day for early voting in North Carolina. So stand up and be counted- VOTE! and do it early

The Goldtones- Unreleased JCP 45

I have been planning on uploading this for some time. This one is for all you JCP collectors. I was fortunate to score this unreleased EP last year along with 4 copies of their only know JCP 45. No release number. Might be one of a kind.

Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson - Here With Me

I picked up their album earlier this summer and was groovin on it. Imagine my happiness when I learned my favorite song off the album was on a 45. Funny thing is, I have had dozens of 45s by this duo but never really paid attention to them. Happily I found I had about 3 of these in my boxes.

Nelson Young - Rock Old Sputnick

Cool rockabilly 45 that I picked up this summer. I spent a Sunday a few weeks ago recording songs and then just plain forgot. I've got some interesting things upcoming. Stay tuned

Martin Denny - Quiet Village

I've had tons of this 45 in the past but never paid attention to it. This summer I found a whole mess of Martin Denny LP's and on a whim I purchased them. Wow, I really enjoyed them. I really had missed out as I see them all over. I dug through my boxes and found these...seems I am now on a mission

Dallas Pearce - Carry Me Back / I"m Gonna Love You

Slowly posting as usual. This is a nice local rarity. Enjoy both sides

The Festivals- You've Got The Makings of A Lover & High Wide And Handome

Wow, it's been a month since I last posted. I seem to be losing track of time...COVID19 is getting on my everlasting nerves. Thought I would post a nice Soul doubleside. Enjoy

The Augustine Twins - Everyday Of My Life

Ok, so yes I have been home for the duration of this health fiasco. And yes, I started strongly with uploads but quickly split my time (when not working) on other things. And then Blogger updated their interface and it took me a while to figure out how to embed a song..the wonders of technology. But here I am with a really nice Soul ballad. Maybe if I get some requests I may get motivated to upload more ...hint hint

Stars - Take Me To The Riot

A few weeks ago I went to Lowes on a Saturday. On the way home I saw in a food truck parked in former car dealer parking lot. But the amazing thing was all the people who were milling around the parking lot in line for food...I thought of this song. Now there seems to be people protesting the social distancing...get a grip people!

Laurie Anderson- Language Is A Virus

Ok, I will admit this will not be the cup of tea for most people. But I remember seeing this when I was an undergraduate in 1986, This public access TV station that played alternative videos would play stuff on the fringe (hmm, many things now in my collection). I was enamored by the strangeness. I found a copy of this on promo 45 and also this interesting 2 lp interview LP. This originally was released on a 5 album box set called United States Live (I still have all of them) and then abridged into 1 LP.  Laurie later married Lou Reed and held him when he died...On a happier note, check out the video and there is a scene where she is dancing with William Burroughs...pretty cool

Frankie Ford- Alimony

I was unable to get a haircut before the COVID-19 shut down everything. So to go along with my unruly hair, I decided I would grow my beard out (was thinking Robert E Lee, or Santa..lol). Anyway, I was given an ultimatum by wife this weekend...trim the beard back to it's normal look, or sleep on the couch and I will chop it while you sleep....I thought about being defiant (for 2 seconds, anyway) and then buckled. It is better to trim the beard, then pay "Alimony"

The Mindbenders - It's Getting Harder All The Time

Where did the week go? Guess I was lazy with the blog again. I was much better with staying home this week...a couple quick trips to post office and Walmart. I have some minor roof work I want to complete but the weather has not cooperated..of course it is beautiful when I am doing my work work. But anyway, this is getting really old and I think this song represents it is getting harder all the time.
So funny story about this one...I was watching To Sir With Love with my wife about 6 months ago. When the Mindbenders played this I flipped. I had heard a new punkish version of this last year by the Pandoras and it's fantastic. I was unaware of this 45. So I look in my data base and I don't have it. I call my friend Jim and ask him if he has it. Nope, he does not either. Ok, on the want list. So about 2 months ago, I'm going through my boxes of 45's organizing a bit by artist, and low and behold I had it in one of my boxes and had neglected to type it in my database

Here is the Pandoras version

Moby Grape- Truckin Man

Happy Easter. I want to take a moment to give a shout out to the Truckers of this country who are keeping us supplied. God Bless you and stay safe. Spent Easter doing yard work, cleaning records, watching Church on TV and in a while will get on Zoom to see my step son and his family

Travis Wammack - Stay

I had every intention to upload something daily...that went down the drain, did it not! I did fairly well at "stay"ing home until yesterday and today when I had to go to Lowes and the grocery store.

Industry - State Of The Nation

What shall we discuss tonight kiddies...COVID19....no way....yet, it is all around us...I woke up in the middle of the night with stuffy sinus and a headache...immediately you know what the mind went to! But my rational mind reminded me that the pollen is horrible right now and I usually get sinus infections around this time. So got up, and I irrigated my sinus with my handy Navage system (highly recommended- can I get an endorsement deal please), took some Excedrin and woke up fine (once I finally went back to sleep that is). Tonight's song is back to the new wave sounds of my teens. I remember seeing this video on MTV back in the day and recently found this copy. The part that resonated was "there's no place like home, there's no place that I want to be anywhere else." I would hotly disagree with that statement...laughing/crying emojie... I have a 12" somewhere and if I find it this weekend I will upload some pictures.

The Black Diamonds- See The Way

Another Monday down the drain. How about a cool 45 that has nothing to do with COVID19. I picked this box set (and box set part two) last year on my first Colorado trip. It had been on my want list for ages and I walked into this record shop and both copies were a 1/3rd of the retail price on sale. To me, this is the highlight of the box set. Of course this is a reissue of rare 45's only released in Australia in the 60's...how  was this 45 never released in the states. The original is mega rare and how about the original video!

Pink Floyd - Stay

I seem to have focused on new wave/power pop/punk over the past week. I will continue with that theme over the coming weeks but I did spent some time today recording some older stuff to balance it out. Tonight's song is a common theme we are hearing. Stay in place, shelter in place, social distancing,...seems like it is giving us some social isolation...well some of us anyway. I did venture out to Lowes today to pick up some items to work on gutters...plenty of people out. Some, like me trying to avoid others...while there were other people that acted like it was business as usual. I even saw a food truck in a parking lot and there must have been 75 peopling milling around waiting...crazy!

The Jam - Mr. Clean

I purchased some clorax wipes about 2 weeks ago. The lady told me to grab extras but I did not want to be a hog. I guess I should have been a hog as the store has not had any since then..or if they have, they have sold out immediately. Continuing my theme for the Vinyl Apocalypse. Try to find stock or Promo copies of this obscure US release from the fantastic Jam! The B side was a UK hit and previously made the blog. I have come to extremely appreciate the Jam as I have gotten older and I have truly neglected them. I believe I will have to remedy that in the coming months and post some more

Marty Willson-Piper- Frightened Just Because of You

The Church were always one of my faves...There always appeared to be band discourse and guitarist Marty Willson-Piper finally left a few years back. This was from his second album way back in 88. I purchased this import 45 new then. So how does this relate to the Virus Apocalypse? I was in the post office yesterday waiting my 6 feet and a person at the front desk started coughing and did not cover their mouth and for some odd reason I thought of the b side of this 45, "Frightened Just Because of You."

Plimsouls- Zero Hour

I guess Zero hour is 30 days from today. 30 days of a stay at home order. If we want to beat this monster listen to our elected officials. No stupid parties like the guy in Maryland and we can worship at home and not need to be in a crowd at a mega church in Florida

Stranglers - Something Better Change / Straighten Out

An article in USA Today states 'Life may change for us all'. There is no may about it, Yes it will change. How can it not change with all of the deaths and sickness we have experienced since January. But it is obvious our society is having a difficult time with change- me included. I went to Lowes today to get grass seed since I figured I will be home the next month I might as well try to grow grass again in the backyard. I did my best to keep person distance but the rest of the store seemed not to grasp that idea-business as usual it seemed. Same with Sams club yesterday. If we want to get over this, Something Better Change and we (me included) better straighten out and stay home. Minimal trips to the store, drug store and post office...nothing more for 30 days.

I was an undergraduate Social Work student in 1985 when I bought the USA EP for a quarter at a flea market. I had never heard of the Stranglers but this looked cool. First listen blew me away and I proceeded to buy everything I could get my hands on from them including the original UK copy.
