The Shadows - Man of Mystery / Kon Tiki

I have boxes of 45s I have purchased that I have filed things to check out later. Being the record hoarder that I am, sometimes later turns out to be several years. I grabbed me a box this weekend and started diving. I put this one on the ole turntable and we have us a Monday morning surf sounding 45. On Atlantic no less. Man of Mystery was a top 5 45 in the UK while Kon Tiki hit #1. Longtime backing band to Cliff Richard...they were not successful in the states chart wise

Robert Fuller and The Southern Spirituals- My Last Song

Once upon a time I posted spirituals on Sunday. Found this one today in one of my boxes that I was going through. Nice NC gospel from up the road about 30 or 40 miles from my home. I have no clue when this came out and I found no reference to it.

The Royal Charmers - Hey Girl/ Midnight Hour

Ok, let's get back to some old timey...GARAGE SOUL. This one is from Eastern North Carolina on the Pitt Label out of Greenville. This is an odd label and I usually find old gospel or country on it. But there are some garage and soul singles to be had. Found this one at the start of July. When I looked it up someone had it classified as Garage Rock Soul. I think I can live with that

Jo Dee Messina - Heads Carolina Tail California

I think early morning posts will be the norm although this one is out of the norm for my posts. I am not a huge country fan but this one was a pleasant surprise for my ears. This one came from the huge purchase from April 2022. As I have gone through the boxes, I separated the 45s and put all the country ones in boxes. But the title for this one caught my attention and after playing it put it in the keeper box. I moved to North Carolina in October of 1994 from Denver Colorado...quite a change for sure. Yes I still miss Colorado but Carolina is home now

New Bold & Brave- Beatles/Seven Days On The Road

Powerpop Tuesday. While digging in my boxes this weekend I came across this one. I have no earthly idea when or where I picked this up. I would expect it was at least over 3 years ago and I know I never got around to listening to it. Imagine my delight when I popped it on the old platter...Powerpop. Seems obscure

Men In Space- Apollo 8

Over 2 years ago I received an email from some estates sales, an auction site that auctions everything under the sun...they were selling the records from Tobin Matthews who had died. Well I ended up going a bit crazy and buying a few lots of 45s. One of the lots I won had 3 surf related 45s and this was one of them. I probably listened to it when I first received it and then filed it away in a box. This past weekend I was going through a box and there it was. Hard to believe sometimes how many records I have yet to really getting around to listening to or putting in my data base.  This one seems to be in demand single that I saw classified on discogs as Rockabilly (disagree) and other sites as surf or t*ttyshaker...closer I guess.  I am not sure if this ever made it past the promo stage. I thought it would be a nice return to Surf Monday

King Edward & His B.D's M.T.Y.L.TT. / I Do

I have had a little playback issues with sound and I think I sorted it out. I thought it was my cartridge at first and switched headshells with another turntable I have and the same issue. At that point I figured it was my receiver. I was going to go to a friends yesterday and buy one from him as he seems to collect electronics but ran out of time. This morning after Church I had an epiphany. I have my old Technics system I bought after I graduated with my undergraduate degree a zillion years ago in our living room not being used. I pulled out the receiver, hooked it up in my mancave and presto, issue solved. Man the sound is fantastic. Of course my wife asked me what I was doing and I told her and she says,"Well are you going to replace it? What If I want to turn on the stereo in the living room"...what, I say...we havent turned that damn thing on in over 10 years...the speakers weren't event connected..She looks at me and says, "Goodbye"...don't you love it when you get into the doghouse over little things...lol

I picked this one up a few weeks back from my friend who has the stereo equipment. Popped it on and it blew my socks off. Thought it would be good for a Sunday Soul upload

The Sands of Time - Red Light / I Want To Thank You Girl

It is interesting to me that early mornings are my new time to post. Of course working some at home helps so I don't have to rush out the door to get to work by 8am. Cooper and I can take our time on our walks. We started testing him not sleeping in his crate the last few nights and for the most part he has slept on the bed with no issues. Of course last night he was fidgety so needless to say we ended up walking at 4:45. Back home with more coffee and a shower and watching the news (not sure why...nothing but bad news)

Picked this one up the last few months. Cooper was so impressed he wanted to visit the Psychedelic Pig

Wreckless Eric- Broken Doll

I was processing what to post on Sunday and my mind just wandered to other things. Needless to say it did not get done. Monday greets me with a nice walk with Cooper and I have a massage therapy appointment later this morning (results of the car wreck from 2019 and my poor neck). And of course work..didn't win the lottery so need to report to work...work...work...

My Monday night posts at  one time were surf related....maybe Monday mornings will be New Wave/Alternative...classics.  A few weeks back I was on vacation. A guy I buy 45s from bought a huge radio station inventory. Since I was on vacation I was able to pick a day early before most people get to look at his stuff. I bought about 150 45s and this baby was one of them. The Big Smash LP this came from is one of my favorites. Matter of fact, I have more Wreckless Eric 45s that will be posted in the near future

Tommy Roe- Little Miss Goodie Two Shoes

A little Saturday night Bubblegum. I had theme nights back when I was more consistent with my uploads and I really would like to get back into a little bit of organization. But for now, it may be a hodge podge of things.

I always love the bubble gum songs of Tommy Roe He was very underrated if you ask me. I will relate a funny little Tommy Roe story. I have probably all of his ABC 45s except for one which is listed in the discographies. However, I have never ever seen it for sale and there is no hard evidence that it was ever released in the states on 45. The songs are I am A Rambler, A Gambler/The Gunfighter referenced as ABC 10696.  So I tracked down Tommy's address and I mailed him a stamped addressed envelope and wrote a little letter. I asked him about the 45 and if it was ever released. I received my letter back and he autographed it...no reply to my question so it is still a mystery 7-24-23..found my stock copy so thought I would add a picture

Eric Burdon & The Animals- Hey Gyp

I was up very early this morning so Cooper and I went on our nice little very early morning walk before it becomes a scorcher today. Recorded some things for the blog this weekend and thought this might be a good one for today. B side but fantastic cover version of a Donovan classic. Periodic insomnia is a gyp for sure

B-52's - Legal Tender

I was never the biggest B-52's fan but I will admit there are a few of their songs that give me the ole WOW factor. This is one of them. One of the 1st MTV videos I ever saw...has stuck with me all these years. I do hate it they seem to be retiring but hey we all get old....or

X - 4th Of July

In all the years I have doing this I have no idea how I overlooked this obvious one.
