Daily Flash - Jack Of Diamonds

It was hotter than H eee double LL today. I'm taking a quick break from working on my next project.
I uploaded a later Daily Flash single in March. This one is more bluesy/garage.

Lincoln St. Exit - Time Has Come Gonna Die

Finished my paper today and emailed to my professor so all is good with the world, now on to the important things...lol. Picked up some more records today...must be a recent record for me...obtaining records on 3 days in one week! Anyway, here is a cool one on the Mainstream label.

Richard & The Young Lions - Nasty

I've been working on my paper that is due Tuesday. I'm hoping to finish it early in the morning so I can have some "me" time tomorrow. I'm supposed to meet a friend at his home for records tomorrow. Not sure what I will find.

Whazoos - Inside Of Me

Another good day of record finds. But I am beat and I am lucky to do this tonight.

Grapefruit - Elevator

Had a good day today. I volunteered at the soup kitchen for a few hours this morning, then went and looked at records. I ended up buying about 30 45's, 15 lp's and 6 78's. I bought stuff all over the map...soul, rock, country bop 78s. I was psyched to find a mint copy of the Kinks All of The Day LP on Reprise.

The Monkees - Porpoise Song

I've lined up to look at some records tomorrow. What a glorious diversion that will be from the week at work I had.
I never really paid much attention to the Monkees, but lately I have found a desire to listen to more of them. I always thought this was a brilliant 45.

Soul Survivors - Explosion In Your Soul

I'm hoping to get out this weekend and look for a few records. My paper is coming along and I hope to get it finished so I can play a bit.
Soul Survivors had a big hit with Expressway To Your Heart and I believe this is there follow up which was a minor hit. Pretty much sounds like Expressway but with new lyrics. I like it though

Ronettes - (The Best Part of) Breakin Up

I was driving back to my office today and I heard this song on Sirus radio. I knew I had a scan and had it taped and thought this would be a nice Tuesday night song. Spector had his major problems in his life that cannot be condoned,  but in those early days his musical genius sure did shine. I think it would be fascinating to read a "true" biography on him.

Ray Stevens - It Only Hurts When I Laugh

Today was a long day and with what I have to do this week I can tell you it will be a long long week. I ran into this song on youtube last year and thought it was fantastic. Not the usual goofy Ray Stevens song. I could see how his reputation for novelty songs may have hurt him with this one or else it might have been a hit. Of course it also did not help that the other side is a novelty song.

The Good Feelins - I'm Captured

Another absolutely wonderful day. I did a little yard work but mostly worked on school work...except for the hour I listened to some new 45's I've picked up over the past few weeks.

Rare Breed - Beg, Borrow and Steal

Boy what a nice day today and I had to spend it in class.I turned in my paper now it is time to work on the next assignment due next Saturday. This Saturday night is all we care about and here is a classic. Of course this song was re-released as the Ohio Express.

Roy Redmond - Ain't That Terrible

Well up early and in my office to work on my paper. Put a good 2 hours on it and felt good about what I did but there was one problem. I forgot to save it. Can you believe that sh*t! Needless to say I have spent the last 3 hours making an effort to recreate what I did. I am going to set up MS word to save my work from now on! Seemed like a fitting song for tonight

Del Counts - What Is The Reason

I am pure beat. Work has been just so busy this week, I've been working on this paper during any free time, and my new exercise program is hell. I am up by 4:30am to be able to get to the YMCA to work out with a group of men and women and we usually start by 5:15am. We have been doing different exercise programs and we just started a new one which pushes you to the limit. I am about to crash for tonight so I expect I will get up tomorrow, shower and go straight to my office to get a few hours before work on my paper as it is due on Saturday.

Back to the music front. Nothing is going as planned! The song I chose for tonight had terrible sound quality so I need to re-record it. But don't fret, here is a catchy cover version of a Rascals song.

No post tonight...deep into writing my paper

So I have been so distracted at home over the past few nights I have been unable to get my paper completed. So, I decided to stay in my office tonight and work on the darn thing. It is now nearly 8pm and I have accomplished little. I have written my intro sentence and have some of the analysis completed but quite frankly I am not as far along as I want to be. But the creative juices are starting to flow and I am starting to generate some ideas of where I want this 5 page monster to go. I was more frustrated until I called Carol, a classmate, and she indicated she was going to call me as she had some questions. Turned out we had the same questions so it sounds like I am on the right track with blindly finishing this thing! Regarding music (which is why you pay attention to this blog in the first place), I have say I am sorry there won't be an upload tonight. I'm leaving my laptop here at work tonight and can't upload anything from it. My work has all these firewalls in place so I can't even upload a youtube video as a brief respite. I will be back tomorrow night with something special I hope. But you can check out my other blog as I did upload a cool song from the Black Hollies this weekend.
Chow!

The Move - Fire Brigade

I need a break from working on my paper, which is not going as quickly as I want. I do better when I have a few weeks to tinker with it.
I always thought this song was catchy. A&M sure did not know how to promote bands that did not include owner Herb Alpert. That is a shame considering some of the singles put out on that label, this one included.

Jim Valley - I'm Real

What a busy day. If work was not stressful enough, I have a paper due on Saturday. This is my quick break and then back to it. Always thought this was a killer single. I think he put this out before he joined Paul Revere and the Raiders, although he was only in that group a year or so in the mid 60s.

Vagrants And When Its Over acetate

Ok my friends....I have been amazed by your wealth of knowledge. Let's put it to use. I found this acetate in a box of records I picked up about 5 or 6 years ago. Have no clue who it is. Seems to me the sleeve had the Paragons on it but it was torn and I tossed it. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
5-16-11. Thanks to Doctor Gaz, I finally can put a group/song this to slab of metal.

Love - 7 and 7 Is

Went to look at some records after class today. The guy on the phone acted like he had hundreds of R&B45s...yeah, well he had maybe 30 and they look like they had been in a barn for 100 years. Not worth a dime.

Nova Local - John Knight's Body

Blogger appeared to be doing work and I could not upload last night. 2nd Decca single from this North Carolina outfit. I picked up a numbered reissue of their rare Decca LP last year.

Counts IV - Spoonful

Well lets see if I can upload some "fresh" sounds that I have not posted before! I have way too much in my life that I am trying to juggle right now but hey, that is what makes life interesting.
I like the "b" side as well and almost uploaded it for tonight. But I caved into intuition that I would hear the "a" side is much better (which it is) ...Not the definitive version of this classic but not too bad. I believe this band was a bunch of airforce personnel stationed at Seymour Johnson Airforce Base in Goldsboro North Carolina, which happens to be the city I work in. They also had a nice 45 out on the JCP label.

A Handful - Dying Daffodil Incident

I thought I had uploaded this one before but it is not on the database I created to avoid duplication. It is hell to be so busy and to throw in worries about uploading a song twice in your blog.

Avengers - Everyone's Gonna Wonder

I'm in the mood for some 60's pop. The Avengers were from New Zealand

James Brown - World (part 1)

I end James Brown week with a song that should instill hope. I went to a conference on gang awareness a few months ago. There was a presentation by a pastor who provides intervention to teens in gangs. He used music in his presentation and he used this song and video. His presentation was very powerful, but unfortunately the law enforcement persons in the audience did not appear impressed. This is an amazing clip for a great song.

James Brown - Mother Popcorn

Virus is dead and the Laptop back to normal. But what a pain in the arse that was to fix. The first time I ever heard this song was the Aerosmith version off of Live Bootleg. Found a cool video as well. I also found one for Say It Loud

James Brown - Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud (Part 1)

Classic anthem...I love this song and have found myself singing it (of course I'm white so I make sure I don't sing it loud...but then again I can't sing period). Diversity and culture, be proud of who you are, and respect others for their differences!

James Brown - Get On The Good Foot

Happy Birthday to You, Godfather of Soul. Is it your left or right? Don't know, but "Get On The Good Foot" We continue with the Godfather of Soul and a 70's classic. He has been gone 4 1/2 years but he's not forgotten. Dontcha just love this label? How many times does it list his name...let's see... James Brown the CREATOR, produced by James Brown, arranged by James Brown, a James Brown production, not to mention his name as the artist underlined. Guess polydor thought we might overlook his name or something!

James Brown - Think

Oh, how about the other side as well..it's killer

James Brown - Try Me

The cover version from Ed Wool motivated me to do a tribute week to James Brown. My friend Jim sometimes has great luck finding records (see the post from yesterday). A few years ago, he scored a huge lot of 45's from an antique store that was closing. He does not really care for promotional records and he ended up giving me about 20 promo King and Polydor James Brown, many being mint 45's. Here is one of those sweet 45s.
