The Amazing Pickles - I Like Ice Cream

My wife and I bought a new Rogue yesterday and we (or rather I) was talking music with the finance person and the salesman. Finance person was knowlegable and had a wide range of interests...the salesman didn't even know who Dolly Parton was...wow. Anyway, I have plenty of my own boxes to dig through if I desire. Had a post ready but when I listened to the song  I realized I messed it and somehow I recorded 17 minutes with different songs...how the hell did I do that? So, I am out of sorts right now so why not bubblegum. I do plan on recording some..so whatch'a whatch'a whatcha' want? Any songs or groups you are interested in?

Madness - It Must Be Love

I never was a huge Madness fan. When I was in high school Our House was all over the radio and I became sick of it quick quickly. I remember this one as well but it was not played as much. Over the years I have appreciated it more and recently digging in a box I had I found a copy. That was funny to me as I had been thinking of this song lately. I also liked One Step Beyond so maybe I find that in a box as well...lol

Paul K & The Weathermen - Apple In My Eye/Another Night On This Earth / To See You If You Fall

Wednesday Album spotlight. I didn't get much recorded this weekend but I did get to this one.  Paul K -if you know you know..what I mean by that is if you have ever listened to his music then you were either hooked or it was not your cup of tea. I was hooked. I was first turned on to Paul's music from a friend when I lived in Denver. At that point I took the deep dive into everything Paul. The first proper Paul K release I bought was on Homestead. Very few of his releases were on vinyl, mostly CD. This one on Alias made it to vinyl. Paul lived a very gritty life and unfortunately he died in 2020 at age 57 of throat cancer. If you search on the web you will find an article that calls him “The Greatest Unknown Songwriter of his Generation” and I would agree with that statement. There is a documentary out there on him and I will admit I have only seen it once and it didn't leave me with a warm feeling...but his music does and it has made a huge resonance on me. I relized when I recorded these songs this weekend that I need to have his cd's near me and I need to continue to keep them alive for me.

I really could have recorded this whole LP for the blog..his songs were full of catchy phrases and honesty- take Apple in My Eye for example, "There's plenty of people before it now want to live your life and tell you how, but if you do what they ask of you, you'll be dead before you're through, its true, its true, you'll be dead before your through, it's true, its' true, you'll be a stiff before you're through." You can find his CD's really cheap and once you go down that rabbit hole you will never be the same. Many of his releases were self produced and not on a label and I have a few but apparently he released over 100 releases so there are huge holes in my collection. One last note, this LP was produced by Mo Tucker, from the Velvet Underground.

The Plimsouls - The Oldest Story In The World

The Belairs - Mr. Moto

Surf Monday. I really don't know why I had the thought of Mondays being a surf or car day? Maybe wishing for more weekend time as it goes so quickly. Another recent pickup that I really thought I had.

The Mellotones of Hickory - He'll Be There / God's Going to Move

A few weeks back I was fortunate to watch Bishop William J. Barber II speak on Poverty and Social Injustice. His speech was powerful and I wish the UNC School of Social Work could have been able to share so I could have shared it here. There is alot going on in the world right now and those who are disenfranchised are suffering the most. The question of the day is "What Can I do to make a positive change and help those impacted by injustice?" And believe me, there is alot of injustice going on right now.

This 45 has seen better days...has some scratches and a nasty heat damage and does skip. But it is so wonderful not to share anyway

Free For All - Don't You Worry About Me / I'm So Glad That I Found You

I think I am in a Sunshine Pop mood. I should have put the B side 1st on this one but hey, they both are really good. Interesting that Buzz Clifford is the writer of the B side

Queen- I'm In Love With My Car

I woke up early because my neck was killing me. My walk with Cooper seemed to help but I should not have worn my hoodie as it was super warm outside...yes, I know...bitch bitch bitch. So why not talk about something positive! Ok, maybe not a car, but I love my Chevy Colorado Truck and it will be paid off in a few months, how is that for positive. Another positive is my memory of this song. I must have been 12 or so, at the flea market in Colorado Springs with my parents and I bought the Queen LP A Night At The Opera. I was familiar with Bohemian Rhapsody and I remember putting the LP on the turntable and this song just hooked me. That probably remains my favorite Queen LP.

Jay And The Americans - Why Can't You Bring Me Home / Baby Stop Your Cryin

I should be able to get back to posting some deep album tracks later this month. Last time I posted a Jay and The Americans 45 was in 2016 so they were overdue. This is one that has grown on me.- it barely dented the charts at #63.I wouldn't say that I was the biggest fan as some of their stuff is just mediocre but then again Jay Black had such a powerful voice he could make a mediocre song sound good. Still on the lookout for the Livin Above Your Head picture sleeve. I've had several opportunities over the years to pick up and stupidly did not

The Champagnes - Crazy

A week break from our Sub Pop Tuesdays- I wasn't as preparted as I thought I was. So we get a little early 60's soul. I recorded this one last summer and thought I had uploaded it.

Dave Dudley - Truck Drivin' Son Of A Gun

I recorded absolutely nothing this weekend so no surf today. I'm not a big country music fan but there are some things that strike my fancy. I found a few old store stock copies of this in the closed 1972 record store inventory. This hit #3 on the country charts and even bubbled under the Billboard top 100 at #125.  When you pay attention this blog your going to get a country 45 now and then...that's how I roll

The Angels - I Adore Him

I hope to get some more gospel ready in the next 2 weeks...have lots of little projects to do today considering I played yesterday.  I so enjoyed going to the flea market yesterday. I saw a friend and picked up some cool 45s..nothing really crazy but just to not think about work for a day was wonderful...oh, my, I just said the nasty word...work..delete from my brain for today!

Nice #25 hit written by Jan Berry of Jan & Dean fame

Tennessee Ernie Ford - Sixteen Tons

I thought I would end the work week with a song that feels relevant to me lately..the last 2 weeks of work feel like I have 16 tons on my back...but enough of that. Everyone is probably familiar with this song originally recorded in the 50's but I had read that Tennessee had cut an updated version in the 60's that was considered popcorn soul and has sold for some interesting prices. So imagine my surprise when I discovered it in the boxes of 45's I purchased from the closed 1972 record store. Man what a groover this version is and I get the popcorn soul connection. I have included a cool picture sleeve I have had for years that did not go with this version. I have never found the 45 to the picture sleeve but does anyone care if I pair it with this? One last thing....check the credits on the label...Elvis Presley Music...what's that all about?

Dave Clark Five - Come Home

Super Cooper got his trip to Petsmart but due to traffic we didn't get to Starbucks...maybe Saturday. I looked and the last time I posted a Dave Clark Five was in 2014, when our beloved Chocolate Lab Bentley was having seizure issues. We so loved Bentley and miss him very much. But Cooper is a joy and spoiled rotten

I always loved Dave Clark Five but the first time I heard this song I really didn't like it. Probably because it was not one of their pounders. But the more I listened to it the more I realized it was a soulful brilliant song. I think I have another picture sleeve that is in better condition but it is buried somewhere. I do need to find it to pair it with the promo 45
