It is crazy how my mind works sometimes. Today is album Wednesday and I did another post and uploaded but pulled it immediately because it was not an album and today is album Wednesday...sheesh, if only that was the worst pile I will step into today. But, mr. noize...did you not post an album yesterday...why yes, yes I did but that was Sub Pop Tuesday and this is Album Wednesday....yes, lets go down the Spinal Tap hole... Anyway, recorded a bunch of songs from albums last week and this lp was picked up in the big auction haul from a few years ago. This had Vini Poncia and Richard Domane involvement and is just Fantastic. I only find a reference for this version..no promos or 45's..
My feeble attempt at documenting my record collection and music obsession.

Velocity Girl- Pretty Sister
Welcome to Sub Pop Tuesday..a Tuesday theme I will try to keep up for a while anyway. At one time I was the biggest Sub Pop collector- bar none! I collected everything and still have some of the rarest things around- test pressings, one of a kind items. Then a few years ago I realized (1) I did not like alot of the stuff they were putting out and (2) they were pressing up special color vinyl versions for different retailers so if you were a completest like me you would need to buy 3 or 4 or 5 copies to get them all- and that was ridiculous, especially if you did not like the record. For a record OCD person like me I needed to put a stop to that. So I made the choice to stop buying them all and also decided to get rid of quite a bit of the Sub Pop lp's that did nothing for me...and I still have more to get rid of. Now I still have all my Sub Pop 45's and at some point I will start getting rid of some of those. I will feature some albums on Tuesdays awhile then will switch to 45's, which I had previously featured years ago.
Anyway, to this post. Last summer/fall Sub Pop reissued a remastered version of the first Velocity Girl album. Now that is a record I loved and I planned on buying it mail order like I did (or thought I did) when it was first released. When I decided to pull the trigger the Sub Pop website showed it was sold out on the Loser edition color vinyl...holy crud Batman. So I searched and the prices are creeping up for it...what the F...! So luckily I found a reasonable copy on the bay of E's with free shipping so I grabbed it. I listened to it and rememembered how wonderful it was. So I dug through my collection to pull out my copies. As you can see....yes I was a collector (did some one say obsessive?). Like I said, I thought I had first purchased it mail order so imagine my surprise when I saw a wax trax price tag on the cover of the purple marble copy...wow, I could have sworn I bought it mail order. Over the years I picked up the others, blue, pink and black vinyl US copies, the german red vinyl, a promo german cd and a promo US cassette. I easily could have featured more on this album and Crazy Town and Audrey were issued as 45's so they may be featured in the future..who knows where this will go.

The Mellowairs - You Better Mind / The Devil Can't Harm A Praying Man
Digging yesterday was not very productive. I went and looked at those 45s and the guy had about 200..split between 70's country and 70's rock..some great tunes but I probably had most of it. He wouldn't give me a price and asked me what I would be willing to pay. Being generous I told him I would give him $20 (which was very generous by the way) and he said, "What! No Way! I would rather let my grandkids throw them in the air and shoot them with the shotgun then take a measly $20 dollars."..well shoot away kids, shoot away.
I have recorded a bunch of songs lately but I have neglected having some gospel ready. Luckily I found this one that I had overlooked uploading..to be honest, I thought I had. North Carolina is rich with fantastic gospel 45s and when I find them they are mostly well loved. I have a plan of more songs to record today so I need clean me some gospel 45s

The Moon - Tell Her Now
I wrote on Thursday I was itchin to crate dig and got a bit in yesterday. I took the afternoon off to run errands for my wife. On the way out of town I run into a storage unit sale...picked up some LP's and a nice Hank Williams MGM 10" moaning the blues album. Hit a few thrift stores where I picked up some funk/soul and then went to my friends home and bought some 45s...not a bad day at all. Of course last night I did not sleep well as we had a bad rain/wind storm so I am in slow motion this morning. I am going to a yard sale this morning that is supposed to have records and then meeting a guy to look at about 200 45s. Thank GOD for coffee!
Today I offer a 45 I picked up in the last year but I have no idea where...I have previously listed The Moon but that was the Matthew Moore/ David Marks band so I am listing this in the label as it's discogs entry (8)

Jr. Walker & The All Stars - Carry Your Own Load
Happy Friday. I love those Motown, Gordy, Tamla and Soul color vinyl promos. I always try to pick them up if they are affordable and this one was a no brainer considering how I love Jr. Walker & the All Stars and the distinctive sax sound. I have to wonder about this release and if this was the targeted side. The other side of the stock release was Holly Holy which was a minor chart hit; however, this song did make the R&B charts. There is a listed promo with Holly Holy on both sdies but it appears to be on boring black vinyl not this beauty

The Sugar Beats - First Love
I am itching to go crate digging but I think I am going to need to wait a couple of weeks. In the meantime, how about another pickup from last November..nice poppy music that melts in your brain for this fine Thursday morning

The Youngbloods - All Over The World / One Note Man/ Four In The Morning
I am glad it was not super cold last night. I happened to check our propane tank yesterday at lunch and it was bone dry...they just filled it less than 3 weeks ago. So I called them to fill it and did they said you may have a leak so they will check line pressure...but did they come yesterday...no, no they did not. I set up a space heater in our bedroom and one in the den for the cats. If it would have been last week I would have icicles on my you know whats
Album spotlight is the Youngbloods debut reissue. If you know about the Get Together 45 you know it bombed initially and then was reissued because of a commercial. RCA reissued the lp at the same time

The Rest - Do-Wop Singer/You Don't Know
I know nothing about this one. I found several of these a few years ago and this one was autographed. The band labeled themselves classic rock and blues...You know I can't pass on interesting things like this but I will admit I was hoping for more of a powerpop sound

The Cowsills - On My SIde
The struggle is real this morning. Ready for our first walk in a week and Cooper and I were confronted with rain. Then I realized I really was not ready for this post...I recorded quite a bit last week and then one surf 45 yesterday but just did not get that post ready. I am thinking this week is going to have a need for some relaxation techniques to get me through! But on a positive side, we can have a later great Cowsills 45

Freddie Branch and The Singing Stars - Every Child Of God / Try Me Father
So this one is in rough condition- my Humminguru did a good job with a deep cleaning but ultimately it can't miraculously remove the scratches. I expect that someday I will run into a better copy considering Mega Sound Studios is less than an hour from where I live.

The What Four - Baby, I Dig Love / It's Hard To Live on Promises
This is not an easy 45 to find. I have had the picture sleeve for at least 20 years and everytime I would see an auction for the 45 it would go for more than I wanted to spend. Late 2024 I managed to score a copy for a crazy low price (sorry Jesse). I have always loved these promo Columbia picture sleeves and actually picked up a few more this week (thanks Jesse). I previously had uploaded a 45 from a group called the What Four but they are a different group so I have renamed them based on their discogs entry (3)
