Happy Friday. I love those Motown, Gordy, Tamla and Soul color vinyl promos. I always try to pick them up if they are affordable and this one was a no brainer considering how I love Jr. Walker & the All Stars and the distinctive sax sound. I have to wonder about this release and if this was the targeted side. The other side of the stock release was Holly Holy which was a minor chart hit; however, this song did make the R&B charts. There is a listed promo with Holly Holy on both sdies but it appears to be on boring black vinyl not this beauty
My feeble attempt at documenting my record collection and music obsession.

The Sugar Beats - First Love
I am itching to go crate digging but I think I am going to need to wait a couple of weeks. In the meantime, how about another pickup from last November..nice poppy music that melts in your brain for this fine Thursday morning

The Youngbloods - All Over The World / One Note Man/ Four In The Morning
I am glad it was not super cold last night. I happened to check our propane tank yesterday at lunch and it was bone dry...they just filled it less than 3 weeks ago. So I called them to fill it and did they said you may have a leak so they will check line pressure...but did they come yesterday...no, no they did not. I set up a space heater in our bedroom and one in the den for the cats. If it would have been last week I would have icicles on my you know whats
Album spotlight is the Youngbloods debut reissue. If you know about the Get Together 45 you know it bombed initially and then was reissued because of a commercial. RCA reissued the lp at the same time

The Rest - Do-Wop Singer/You Don't Know
I know nothing about this one. I found several of these a few years ago and this one was autographed. The band labeled themselves classic rock and blues...You know I can't pass on interesting things like this but I will admit I was hoping for more of a powerpop sound

The Cowsills - On My SIde
The struggle is real this morning. Ready for our first walk in a week and Cooper and I were confronted with rain. Then I realized I really was not ready for this post...I recorded quite a bit last week and then one surf 45 yesterday but just did not get that post ready. I am thinking this week is going to have a need for some relaxation techniques to get me through! But on a positive side, we can have a later great Cowsills 45

Freddie Branch and The Singing Stars - Every Child Of God / Try Me Father
So this one is in rough condition- my Humminguru did a good job with a deep cleaning but ultimately it can't miraculously remove the scratches. I expect that someday I will run into a better copy considering Mega Sound Studios is less than an hour from where I live.

The What Four - Baby, I Dig Love / It's Hard To Live on Promises
This is not an easy 45 to find. I have had the picture sleeve for at least 20 years and everytime I would see an auction for the 45 it would go for more than I wanted to spend. Late 2024 I managed to score a copy for a crazy low price (sorry Jesse). I have always loved these promo Columbia picture sleeves and actually picked up a few more this week (thanks Jesse). I previously had uploaded a 45 from a group called the What Four but they are a different group so I have renamed them based on their discogs entry (3)

Wade Flemons - Keep On Loving Me / Please Send Me Somone to Love
Cooper and I have not had a walk in days. I could handle the cold but it's the ice on the sidewalks and roads that is stopping me. Usually when we get snow it melts by the next day but not this time. We still have plenty of snow and icicles.
I present you another one I pulled from the closed record store haul. Fantastic!

Wanda Jackson - Hot Dog! That Made Him Mad / Silver Threads And Golden Needles
I have a ton of Wanda Jackson 45s and you can't beat those early rockabilly greats. Found this in the records I bought from the closed 1972 record store inventory I bought..wow!

LIz Phair - Polyester Bride
Snow..we have snow...maybe 1to 2 inches but still...snow and 20 degrees. I always loved Liz Phair and always thought this was catchy. Matador and Capitol ventured together for a few jukebox 45's...still on the lookout for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion 45

Rock Candy Mt. - Sweet Magic
I am glad my work day starts at 8:30am as I almost forgot to post. A little bubblegum on this cold Tuesday for a quick post. Snow is supposed to be tonight

The Marksmen - Night Run / Scratch
Happy Martin Luther King Day. I didn't think of finding a Civil Rights 45 for today...sorry for my oversight. So instead I will stick to my Monday OCD of surf guitar in preparation for the fridgid cold weather we are expecting. I picked this one up in Colorado Springs in December. Nice Ventures related 45 featuring Nokie Edwards. I couldn't resist putting it in a Dolton sleeve

Reverend A Johnson - GOD Don't Like It/ If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again
I picked up a receiver from my friend yesterday and today I plan on hooking it up. We have rain today and the weather persons are calling for something rare this week....snow...we may acturally get snow...I can't wait to see Cooper running around in the backyard in the snow.
I found this one in one of my boxes last week...just down right fantastic.

Chad Allan and the Expressions- Stop Teasin Me
I feel rushed this morning. Going to my friend's house and planned on being out the door by now. Ok, take a breath...so the post I wanted to do I am missing a picture so I guess it will be next week...and next weeks will be this week...oh the life I lead. The Guess Who when they were Chad Allan and the Expressions....fantastic B side

The Entertainers - Rutherford B. Hayes / Am I Really What You See?
I stayed up late last night like an idiot so obviously I did not get up early for a walk. Cooper was not complaining...lazy boy! I'm sucking up the life giving properties of Coffee trying to get my blood flowing and the A side of this gets the blood flowing. This appears to be their only release out of Georgia...they are listed as The Entertainers (27) on discogs...you would think the band could have thought of something a little more original

Steve Karmen - River In My Blood / Night Time
Found this one in one of my boxes this weekend. I think Night Time was the A side but of course I liked the b side. I continue to test out my receiver during the day and it's working a bit better but I still may go shopping at my friend's home to pick up a spare considering I do think this one is going out. I was listening to a couple lp's from a group called Birdsongs of the Mesozoic and thought about recording some but ultimately decided I didn't want to alienate anyone as it is definately not the standard fare for this blog..lol

Marshmallow Overcoat - Beverly Pepper/Thirteen Ghosts
Wednesday Album spotlight. I went to Tuscan in the early 1990's..I was considering graduate school and toured the University of Arizona. I think in reality I just wanted a vacation and I never really considered moving to Tuscan. I went in the summer and I remember it was really hot and such a dry heat. I remember driving around and seeing dirt painted green for a "lawn" appearance. I think the highlight of the trip was going to Toxic Shock Records. I remember hitting this thrift store and found a different promo copy of this that also had a press kit. But years ago I sold it when my wife was sick, out of work and we needed money. A few years ago I managed to find another copy (unfortunately without the press kit) and snagged it quickly. A lot of great bands came from Arizona and I previously have posted some Giant Sand.
I am glad I recorded a bunch this weekend as my Sony receiver is giving me fits and I think it has a short. It keeps switching from phono to video. I tried a trick that Jesse suggested and it is still doing it but not as much. I plan on going to a friend's this weekend to do some shopping in his shed as he has shelves of electronics.

U2 - Out Of Control / Stories For Boys / Boy Girl
I have written a few times about when I attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins in the late 1980's I would visit the Finest Records, a fantastic local record store that is sadly no longer with us. They always had promo 45s and used imports for $1...I remember they had stacks of this one. I purchased the first one pictured at the time and wish I would have bought all of them...buy hey, I was a broke college student that spent food money on records. Last year I picked up the 2nd one cheap but didn't realize until I was posting this that it was a different label pressing. I picked up the orange vinyl copy years ago by mistake. The story on that one is I was at Schoolkids Records in Raleigh and they had a used Supersuckers Sub Pop 45 for a buck. Of course I picked it up. When I got home not only was the Supersuckers 45 in the sleeve but this orange vinyl copy of this U2 45 was in the sleeve as well....BONUS! I can just imagine how much it would have been had it had it's proper sleeve. I am not a U2 historian by any means but I seem to remember when I bought the first U2 lp I was disappointed in the mix of Out of Control..it seemed so sterile and like the band was uninterested...I always thought this 45 had so much passion and excitement...I probably need to listen to the album again
