Dave Dudley - Truck Drivin' Son Of A Gun

I recorded absolutely nothing this weekend so no surf today. I'm not a big country music fan but there are some things that strike my fancy. I found a few old store stock copies of this in the closed 1972 record store inventory. This hit #3 on the country charts and even bubbled under the Billboard top 100 at #125.  When you pay attention this blog your going to get a country 45 now and then...that's how I roll

The Angels - I Adore Him

I hope to get some more gospel ready in the next 2 weeks...have lots of little projects to do today considering I played yesterday.  I so enjoyed going to the flea market yesterday. I saw a friend and picked up some cool 45s..nothing really crazy but just to not think about work for a day was wonderful...oh, my, I just said the nasty word...work..delete from my brain for today!

Nice #25 hit written by Jan Berry of Jan & Dean fame

Tennessee Ernie Ford - Sixteen Tons

I thought I would end the work week with a song that feels relevant to me lately..the last 2 weeks of work feel like I have 16 tons on my back...but enough of that. Everyone is probably familiar with this song originally recorded in the 50's but I had read that Tennessee had cut an updated version in the 60's that was considered popcorn soul and has sold for some interesting prices. So imagine my surprise when I discovered it in the boxes of 45's I purchased from the closed 1972 record store. Man what a groover this version is and I get the popcorn soul connection. I have included a cool picture sleeve I have had for years that did not go with this version. I have never found the 45 to the picture sleeve but does anyone care if I pair it with this? One last thing....check the credits on the label...Elvis Presley Music...what's that all about?

Dave Clark Five - Come Home

Super Cooper got his trip to Petsmart but due to traffic we didn't get to Starbucks...maybe Saturday. I looked and the last time I posted a Dave Clark Five was in 2014, when our beloved Chocolate Lab Bentley was having seizure issues. We so loved Bentley and miss him very much. But Cooper is a joy and spoiled rotten

I always loved Dave Clark Five but the first time I heard this song I really didn't like it. Probably because it was not one of their pounders. But the more I listened to it the more I realized it was a soulful brilliant song. I think I have another picture sleeve that is in better condition but it is buried somewhere. I do need to find it to pair it with the promo 45

The Rolling Stones - Before They Make Me Run

Super Cooper turns 3 today. He got his daily walk this morning and not a run. He gets a trip to Petsmart after work tonight for his birthday, and a Starbucks Pupcup. Oh the life, he has. Of course his kitty buddy Princess Pussface, and her sister Tazzie turn 3 today as well (we guess they were born around the same time considering when we rescued them as kittens in our yard). They will get treats too but I wouldn't need the kaos of trying to take them for a car ride.

No LP today but how about a nice stones rarity. No offense to Mick, but Keith should have had a few more vocal opportunities

Reverend Horton Heat - Marijuana

Subpop Tuesday. I remember my friend playing me this and I immediately went and bought it (the black/white version). We later went on a road trip to Lawrence Kansas and I bought the bluish one at the Love Garden. Later picked up the test pressing. This is a 10" release but the test pressing is 12" if you care

The Fabulous Plaids - Let's Learn About Love / I'm Coming Home

Where does the weekend go?I might as well as start the week out with an obscure North Carolina garage 45 with the picture sleeve. Not something you find everyday that's for sure.

Mighty Redeemers - The Name Jesus / If You Need Jesus

Yesterday was happy digging day. I found alot of cool things but I am not sure how much I found may end up on this blog..we will see. Last week was exhausing due to work challenges so my stress relief was digging.

We continue with my love of the Peacock label. This one has seen better days. I have said it before, I sure wish there was a reissue compelation of all the Peacock gospel 45's..I want it!

The Tropics - As Time's Gone/TIme

Happy for Saturday and I get to do my favorite past time- digging for vinyl. I need it after the long, very long work week I had! Here is a nice removal from my want list that arrived a few weeks ago. I debated what was the A side. I've seen references for both sides listed as the A side and while they both are killer I elected to go this way. In the end it really doesn't matter as it is a brilliant double sided 45

Larry Santos - You Got Me Where You Want Me/Tomorrow Without Love

I present an in-demand soul 45. I was surprised how much this has gone for but it did grow on me.

4 Seasons- Where Are My Dreams

One of the last if not the last 4 Seasons Philips 45's. By this time they barely dented the charts and this one did not hit Billboard. A fine one from 1970

Cat Stevens - If You Want To Be Me, Be Me

I think I wrote about going to a Thanksgiving day annual Flea Market. Somebody had listed they would be bringing thousands of albums they apparently bought in a storage unit buy. This was probably 8 or 9 years ago. I had to drive an hour to this town and it was still dark out when I got there and I was not the first to be digging in these records. They were amazing. I ended up with about 140 lp's for a buck a piece and dumba$$ me did not bring more $...we are talking REM, Replacements, Joy Division, Zappa, Velvet Underground ..you get the picture. This weird bootleg was in the buy. You can tell by the sound that this song was recorded off the Harold & Maude movie as I believe this was never made commercially available until the 1980's. Probably one of Cat's most beloved 45's they missed an opportunity for chart action at the time. Also, this bootleg has it titled different than the If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out

Girl Trouble - Primeval

Sub Pop Tuesday. I love that grungy lofi sound. This LP was oop when I found a sealed copy in a Boulder Colorado record store on the hill that was going out of business back in the early 90's before I moved to North Carolina. It was 1/2 priced- I also found Mark Lanegans debut on red vinyl the same day..that was a score day. I later picked up the yellow vinyl reissue, the test pressing and of course the 3 song promo cassette.
