What a groggy morning, but now I am back in my teenage bedroom with with what I felt was the standout track from Hot Space. I remember buying the LP new and spinning it on the turntable. Hot Space really didn't do well for the band and this song stalled at #60. I always thought Roger Taylor brought forward solid songs and I guess you could guess that as the 2 Queen songs I have uploaded were written by Roger.
I am so looking forward to the weekend based on how busy this work week has been. Of course my wife already has started coming up with a list of things I will need to take care of before I can play...oh the humanity!
Picked up this promo Checker 45 at the flea market in March. A little rough but played nicely. This is quite a departure from what has been on my turntable the last few days. I played some new mailorder arrivals. Let's see I played the new Son Volt LP, the new Social Distortion Lp, and 2 record store day Noctorum lp's (Marty Willson-Piper from the Church), then I went into the archives and pulled out a Graham Parker LP and a NAZZ lp. I have some microsoft teams meetings today so I am not sure I will have the space to put on any records but if I do it will be the RSD XTC LP, the RSD Bob Brady lp and I have a James Brown LP staring me in the face begging to be played
It was a little chilly this morning but Cooper and I had a nice walk, except for the train. The train is so loud and hurts Coopers (and my) ears. Most mornings we miss it but not this morning. We had to hang out behind a builiding to wait for it to pass by.

I didn't sleep well last night as my neck was killing me. My Tenz unit didn't effectively help so I ended up taking a hot shower at 1:30am with the massaging head. That helped dramatically and I was able to finally fall back to sleep. Walking Cooper at 5am also helped..something about movement I guess. I have a very busy week so I can't let last night affect me today. Let's start the work week out with some exotica. I bought this mailorder with the Savages, Joe Walsh and some Peacock gospel 45s (among others of course)
I found this one in a box yesterday while I was looking for some doowop to trade to a person I know. I have not seen him in ages, but he has been bugging me to come and trade some 45s. He told me he picked up a ton of gospel and soul 45s so I started pulling things to trade to him. It took me ages to dig through my sleeve box to find a VJ sleeve. I used to have a bunch of them but no more.
By the way, I was so inspired by yesterday's post that I updated the other Savages upload I had with new pictures and reposted the song...enjoy

I picked this one up at the flea market in March. I anticipated this to be a country bopper and was pleasantly surprised it was not. 
I had never heard this song before I purchased it. I have been buying 45s for years from a guy from his internet list. He had this one listed with this promo insert and since it was cheap I took a chance. I have a Dunhill insert for a Dusty Springfield 45 and so I knew what this was. Boy was I happily surprised when I played this. This was Joe's first solo 45 after leaving the James Gang. I think I have a copy of Barnstorm somewhere but I definately need to find it and play it.
I know Courtney Love and Hole are not everyones taste. But this really is a fantastic double sided blazing gem of a 45. The B sided really is a kick A** song. I really thought they would really explode after this album but they fizzled...too much personality clashes. Rumours in the last few years of new material but really their time came and went.
Gary Lewis and The Playboys are not my first thought for a surf band but they captured that sound perfectly with Doin The Flake. Matter of fact they took on the drag sound with Little Miss Go Go. This was supposedly a mail in order offered by Kellogs Corn Flakes. Of course they wanted to add their smash This Diamond Ring so the kiddies would write in and ask for it
Braved the rain for the flea market and ended up with 135 45's. Two other guys were digging and one guy had a pile and then started looking them up before purchasing to see what they were worth to resale. That irriates me to no end....part of the fun is taking a chance. Too many people are looking to flip it quickly and make bucks and careless about the music. I remember one store I used to go the seller sold all 45's regardless of what it was for $1. He never looked anything up but did pull things he knew was worth more. I remember him telling me one time a guy brought in a price guide to look them up before buying. He told the buyer, "look, they are a dollar. If you want to look them up that is fine but then I am selling them to you based on what your book says"...I loved it! Yes, I guess I am getting grumpy in my old age. I passed on a ton of Peacock gospel 45s yesterday as quite frankly I think I already had them and I have enough duplicates already, however, I would have picked this one up if there was copy its that good
No walk this morning as it is raining and it is supposed to pour all day. And they guy I buy from at the flea market let me know yesterday he will have 5000 new 45s out today in his tent covering. Looks like I am braving the weather. Nice little garage 45 for today I picked up this year and to be honest I really don't remember where I got it
Happy May 1st. To continue celebration of Tommy James birthday this week I thought I would post a latin version of Mony Mony. Pretty cool B side as well. Released on a division of Roulette with both songs being previous Roulette releases...hm, not a bad way to try to get more royalty money for Roulette
We had a heavy rain last night but it ended so Cooper and I could get our walk, The storm caused us to lose power and of course that impacted my coffee starting on its own. Nothing a quick push of the button couldn't fix. Thursday girl sounds...A side has a bit of a latin feel to me. This appears to be Wendy's only release.
Happy Birthday to Tommy James. I have always been a Tommy James fan. I remember when I was in Jr High I would listen to this station that played oldies and I remember calling and requesting a Tommy James song (Sweet Cherry Wine- which has not made an appearance here so I think you know I will rectify that) and they played it. I was so happy...isn't funny what makes us happy when we are 12 or 13..lol.Today I present a double sided gem that is very underated. This was released after the smash Mony Mony and the A side barely dented the US charts at #53 and hit #40 in Canada. The B side didn't hit the charts and its as good or better than the A side!
