The Debs - Sloopy's Gonna Hang On / Under A Streetlight

Short weeks are nice but also busy work wise. Let's celebrate with a girl group sound- my 2nd Debs 45...I posted a different one like 14 years ago.

Treepeople- Size Of A Quarter

Wednesday Album Deep Cut. Are their any Built To Spill fans out there? Before Doug formed BTS, he was in Treepeople and this was their 1st EP. My friend Craig gave me this when I moved from Denver to North Carolina back in 1994. He had turned me on to them and I became a fan and found everything I could get my hands on. When they broke up, I found a  really cheap copy of BTS promo C/Z cassette when it was released and off and running I was with BTS.

Squeeze - Goodbye Girl

It feels like a Monday..glad it is not but I have a packed work week. Recorded this one yesterday. This was a recent buy from a friend (more good ones to come that I picked up from him). This PS is the bomb and pictures don't do it justice with the embrossed raised guy. I can't believe this is my first Squeeze posting. I actually have another one recorded and was planning on uploading it but this is fresh in my mind. Once upon a time I had a turntable in my office and the Squeeze LP with all their hits was on frequent rotation.

The Guess Who - His Girl / It's My Pride

Saturday means crate digging but probably not much today. Last Saturday was productive but I have to take my wife's vehicle in for inspection...will try to go to my friend and see what he has for me. I have never found many early Guess Who 45s,

Southern Culture On The Skids- Camel Walk

Wednesday Album Deep Cut. When I lived in Colorado I was introduced to SCOTS from someone I worked with. He had moved to the Boulder area from Chapel HIll so he was a big fan. I ended up purchasing some of their 45's and their 10" on the Sympathy For The Record Industry. When I moved to North Carolina I went into a Chapel Hill record store and they had a stack of their debut lp cheap. I bought one but really I should have bought every one of them. In 95, the featured song was all over MTV...Geffen released the CD version but I picked up the LP version of course. Geffen ended up releasing a 45 off this but this was only availabe on a cd single...

The Pretenders - Talk Of The Town / Message Of Love

I never understood why Talk Of The Town  was not a proper US 45 release. First off, Message of Love is the A side of the promo US 45 and was also not made as a proper stock 45. The Pretenders II LP is pretty darn good but I think they picked the wrong singles to put out. Missed opportunity if you want chart hits. (well, Message of Love did make an airplay chart) To me, Talk of The Town is the quintessential Pretenders song.

Man or Astro-Man? - Astro Launch

I had plans to record more yestereday but just never got around to it. I need to go into the archives for some older surf drag music. I am not sure if Man or ASTRO man were/are considered surf (modern surf if there is a term) but I always found them to be interesting. I don't have tons of their stuff but what I have is wonderful.

The Spirit of Memphis - Pay Day /My Explanation

I had a blast yesterday. I was fortunate to do some crate digging in the inventory of a record store that closed in 2008.  I found several boxes of gospel 45's and I bought every Peacock 45 I saw...all in beautiful shape which is something with Peacock 45s you never find. This was one of my finds. I even had time to re-record most of the stuff I messed up last week

Bo Gentry & Ritchie Cordell- Stone Go Getter

I was preparing an entry this morning and realized I screwed up last week. I apparently did not pay attention to the settings on the roxio program..instead of input it recorded as microphone...uggggghhhhh...I am goin to have to trash those sounds and re-record this weekend...Needless to say that lead me to scramble to see what else I had on the computer that fits for my typical Saturday theme...popsike, pysch, garage, bubblegum....bubblegum it is

Don Gardner - My Baby Likes To Boogaloo

Another busy week in Noize land. I am looking forward to doing some crate digging tomorrow. Nice little promo to end the work week. This song placed #26 on the Bubbling Under Billboard Chart...mindblowing to me the poor showing....this should have been a huge hit

Tommy Tutone- Which Man Are You

I remembrer picking up a copy of Tommy Tutone's 1st LP at a Goodwill right after it was released in 1980...matter of fact a promo copy of their 45 Cheap Date was also there and I picked it up also (should be featured here someday). I had heard their song Angel Say No on the radio so it was a good buy. I still have the LP and the 45. The video for this song was shown alot but it did not have the impact as their 867-5309 song. This made the "bubbling under" billboard charts and barely missed the top 100- I always thought this should have been a hit

Yo La Tengo- Private Doberman

Wednesday Album Deep Cut. I recorded a bunch of album cuts a few weeks back and I almost went quirky this morning...off the ball stuff. I decided to not go down that path....YET...maybe next week. Stick traditional I told myself...well traditional Indie in today's case. Yo La Tengo is a national treasure and they keep plugging away. I will admit I am not as enamoured with the stuff they have been putting out lately and always head back to older stuff. This song was on a Coyote Records compilation that I have had for the past 30+ years. I last saw them in concert in Durham right before the VID and they had Dave Schramm touring with them as an extra guitarist. Dave was an original member before he ventured on his own ....hmm...maybe some Schramms are in our future.
