The Joys Of Life - Descent / Good Times Are Over

I slept in a little this morning. I stayed up on Thursday to watch the Colorado Buffaloes secure their 1st win of the year...it seems like anytime I stay up late it and don't get much sleep it lingers for days. But I'm ready to hit the door and run a few errands while also keeping my peepers out for yardsales.

Bought this killer 45 from my friend.Jesse....it really has been a good year with picking up bangers that quite frankly I thought I would never find. Both sides are so good! The obsessive in me wanted to put this in a proper Columbia sleeve and I really thought it would look great in a Blue Columbia sleeve. Well I searched in my empty sleeve box and frustraingly could not find one. Then came across this purplish one and thought perfect.

Deon Jackson - Love Takes A Long Time Growing/ Hush Little Baby

Wow..2 in a row on Carla and songs that were released back to back (by catalog # anyway). Picked this one up at the same time as yesterdays. I was listening to some youtube mixes one day while working and youtube started playing this Deon Jackson CD. I really enjoyed it and managed to find a sealed copy in the recent closed record store dig. Then I found this...cool.

Barbara Paul - Don't Let The Party End

Thursday girl group sound and a little soul too. Another recent pickup

Sussman Lawrence - Shelly's Dog / Rock Slow / Ode To Another Egg

Wedneday Deep Album cuts: I picked this up in the big LP auction I won a few years ago and have written a bit about. Matter of fact, there were 2 of these in the boxes. I am not sure that I would have even given this one a second look if I had seen it in a store. But man was I blown away. Really reminds me of early Elvis Costello. I really could have recorded all of side 1 if I had wanted to. This obscure group featured Peter Himmleman before he became well known. Now having said that, I really know little of his music. Maybe I need to explore his music a bit more..

Rush - Entre Nous

I discovered RUSH when I was in highschool in 1981 with the Moving Pictures lp. At that point I I was on a mission to purchase their used lps. This was always one of my favorite songs so imagine my happiness of finding the promo 45 for a $1 at a flea market 3 years ago. Then I found the promo 12" not too long afterwards

Man or Astro-Man? Polaris / War Of The Satellites

The Monday morning struggle is real. Last week was a crazy busy week at work and this week will be the same. I did not get much relaxation this weekend as I tried to straighten up the mancave and quite frankly I have vinyl everywhere....hoard much dude! But I did manage to record some things this weekend and of course I had issues with the phone link on the computer this morning to upload the pictures. After 30 minutes of cursing and screaming and crying (not really) I was able to get pictures up. I hope this is not an indication of what's to come this week.

I dug this one out yesterday out of the archives. I bought this 5" record...yes a 5" record at Wax Trax Denver when it was released. I think I wrote at one time that I used to buy everything on SFTRI and I have a few of these SFTRI 5" records.

Brother Joe May - Don't Let The Devil Ride

Another from the recent buy from a closed record store. I think it is time to go back and dig somemore

The K-Otics - They Don't Know / Charlena

What an excruciatingly long week. I was so exhausted last night I went to bed early and got up around 5:30 which is late for me. I plan on organizing the mancave a bit today. Today's post is one I have had for years...don't remember where I picked it from. Another case where the A side is good but the B side is better - so the B side was recorded first

The Traces - What Am I To Do / Love Me Forever

Obscure Soul 45 on Laurie. Love those advance Laurie labrels

The Everly Brothers Man With Money

I really should do a week of B sides. Killer B side from the Everly Brothers. There are many cool cover versions of this song out there but this original may be the best. I believe this was the last 1960's Everly Brothers Picture Sleeve

Sister Rosetta Tharpe - When The Gates Swing Open

Wednesday deep Album cut. Yesterday was such a long day. Out the door really early to go to a work training- almost a 3 hour drive one way. I have not been to the massage therapist in a few months and I need to schedule something soon as my neck was just killing me yesterday. I forgot my excedrin and stupid me did not use my kneck pillow while driving. I arrived home around 5pm and I did not go to bed until 10 and then woke up at midnight for 3 hours before falling back asleep for 2 hours. So I am tired and have another challenging day planned. I felt this was the right post for today. About 10 years ago, I had a little turntable in my office and I kept about 25 albums at all times on a shelf. I would rotate the albums out but there were 2 that stayed in my office...a Graham Parker LP and this one. My co-workers knew that I was having a challenging day if the good Sister was playing. This album always brought me comfort and it was such a joy to put it on a few weeks ago to record today's deep album cut

The Cars - All Mixed Up

Early morning post as I need to hit the road. Have a work training and have 2 1/2 drive one way. I picked this one up a few years ago in the huge buy of 14000+ 45s. Killer classic B side from the Cars debut LP. What a classic LP that is. My distinct memory of the cars debut release is from around 1982 with me and my friend Dan driving around in his red mustang with the Cars 8 track going.  If you like this song you may want to check out the amazing version the Red House Painters do. I have a copy of it on a promo CD

The Barracuda's - Boss Barracuda / Hot Rod U.S.A.

I dug this one out yesterday. I found it years ago at a yardsale about a mile from my house. Yardsales with records near me is a rarity, just like this 45. I previously uploaded the Surfaris version. Notice the writing credits...Bobby Darin! Discogs lists him as a member..interesting

Grace Gospel Singers - Open Up Your Heart

Not the prettiest looking 45 but wow does it pack a wallop. Apparently from 1957 or 1958...obscure and wonderful

Tony RIvers and The Castaways - I Love You / I Love The Way You Walk

When I think of the Consetellation label, I think of Gene Chandler and Northern Soul 45s. I was not expecting a british invasion sounding 45..call me pleasantly surprised.

Brenda Duff - Left in Love Alone / Love Ain't Never Hurt Nobody

I purchased this recently from the personal collection from the owner of the record store that closed in 2008. Can you say no brainer

Dusty Springfield - Stay While

Another nice beautiful copy from the closed 1972 record store find. This was Dusty's 2nd US hit and only managed to hit #38 on the Billboard chart. It's a brilliant little single and should have done better and I would like to see what was on the charts at that time to see why it stalled. It is baffling to me why her songs charted so low in the USA...I mean Dusty in Memphis only hit #91 or her Gollden Hits only hit #137! At least the Hall of SHAME inducted her.  I have realized I have not uploaded one of my favorite Dusty 45's and will have to dig that out and rectify that in the next few months.

Polaris - Hey Sandy / Waiting For October

Yesterday I wrote how I liked the sloppy sound...well today I share the shimmering poppy indie sound I also so love..I was a huge a Miracle Legion fan and I was devestated when they broke up after the record label Morgan Creek legal drama of Drenched. I had been a fan of their's for a few years and just knew they would hit superstardom. It was not like that Morgan Creek did not try...there were a bunch of promos cd's and 12" singles and I remember seeing them on Letterman. But it was not to be...The producers of the Nickolodean show Pete & Pete loved Miracle Legion and approached the band to do some stuff for them. Guitarist Ray Neal became disalussioned by the issues with the major label and declined involvment. In the ashes, Polaris was born to record some songs for Pete & Pete. I was completely unaware of Polaris unitl one Saturday morning my son turned on Pete & Pete (that 1st season) and I heard the opening song Hey Sandy. I'm like...that is Mark Mulcahy!  I tracked down the CD when it was released and when the LP was put out on Record Store Day years ago I was so afraid I would not get one....assuming I guess that the world loved Miracle Legion and Mark Mulcahy's voice. This is the first pressing from back in 2015. Miracle Legion has since reformed occassionally to put out live LP's and had one final regular release...hmmm, guess I have more featuring to do in the future.
