The Kingtones - Twins

I wonder how many 45s have ever been released? Is that a silly or irrelevant question? But think about how few ever hit the charts and how most just faded into collector obscurity. Today's post isn't worth anything but it's still catchy and, well ---pretty cool. And that folks is why I am in the game. Finding these obscure nuggets to enjoy and share. Maybe you sometimes check my blog out for the obscurities like this....maybe you are a person that wants the hits and more known artists....maybe you like the soul..or surf...or garage...or punk/indie. If you only like certain sounds just broaden you horizons a bit. Life is too short to get stuck on one thing

I always wondered the same , and always assumed 5 million unique 45’s may be around the right number…
But we are in 2025 and have artificial intelligence so I asked that lol here’s what they say

“Estimate approximately 2-3 million unique 45rpm records have been pressed worldwide since 1949, this accounts for major and indie record label output, global markets, and ongoing production, while acknowledging gaps in data for obscure and undocumented releases”

I also firmly believe that there’s more $1,000+ 45’s than $1,000+ LP’s , I wonder if AI can come up with an estimate for that too
