12" Single Spotlight Husker Du - Makes No Sense At All

Quite a lot has happened in since the end of June. My wife (and Bently of course) had vacation planned to go to Colorado to see my step son get married. Two days before our trip, I was driving home from work and this young lady ran a stop sign out in the country and smashed my car. We both were blessed to walk away from the accident but I then had to drive us to Colorado.. We enjoyed the wedding but the trip was long and difficult on all of us. I was so stiff form the accident and when I returned I started seeing a Chiropractor to limber my shoulder and neck up. I also had to buy a new vehicle as she totaled (my paid off) car. I purchased a Chevy Colorado and while I don't love the gas mileage I'm getting, I love the fact I have me another pick up truck after 18 years.

My last post was made while we were staying at my mothers and I have just been short on time to post again. I thought I would do another 12" single spotlight. I picked this one up in Denver in 1992 or so and it I felt at the time it was a present for the hell I had been going through. A few months earlier, I had sinus surgery and my immune system was low and right afterwards I contracted Mononucleosis. I had no energy for over a month and was out of work. I bought this on my first trip out of the house at Doubleplay Records. I was a huge Husker Du fan and could not believe I found this. You could get some deals at Doubleplay but the owner also could be a jerk at times. And yes, I paid a buck for it.

Ted Leo - More Hard Time

This is a fantastic single that took awhile to get to me. It's a few years old and to be honest, I did not know it even existed until Ted sent it to me a few weeks back. It's kinda of a long story. I backed his Kickstarter project a few years so he could finish his last album. He finished the album and I received the MP3's for the LP but have received nothing else. I'm supposed to get a whole bunch of items and out of the blue I received this 45..still waiting on the rest. I love Ted's music and will continue to support and buy his releases but I doubt I would back another of his projects due to the delay. I have backed 3 Kickstarter projects and so far only 1 of the 3 sent me everything promised...disappointing to say the least.

12" Single Spot Light: Wire - Kidney Bingos

I was going through my boxes and shelves of LP's and I realized I have a crud load of 12" singles from a bunch of alternative artists. This got me to to thinking of doing a spot light on 12" singles. Some of these were not easy to find as many are promos. Tonight's is not a promo but one I found used right after it was released

I love Wire. This was round the time they reformed. I heard this all over alt radio back in the day

The Mutants - So American

My typical Saturday morning is to be on the prowl for vinyl. About a month ago, I was listening to the Underground Garage while on my eternal search and this song was played. I looked on Discogs and found a copy that was reasonably priced and bought it. I won't go into the fresh hell that took to actually get the record from the seller but it finally arrived this week. It's lucky it arrived in good shape at all considering the horrid packing and the fact the label was barely taped on and hanging off. Public Service rant: If you are a record re-seller, take some pride in how you deal with customers, not to take your time to ship, and package it up professionally.

The Thirteenth Floor Elevators- You're Gonna Miss Me

I have no excuses in my lapses on this blog. Oh I think about it all the time, and have some really cool ideas for the future. But in the end, I get so lazy and think, "l'll upload something tomorrow." And of course tomorrow never comes. But I did get off my A double S to record a few today. More on that later

I have come to the conclusion that I am a record hoarder. I have 2 rooms full of records. So I have been going through them to have a yard sale in a week. I will be putting out thousands of 45's and LP's out. But don't woozy eye thinking that the stuff on this blog will be put out. I"m putting out just tons of I lesser quality regular stuff..no rarities unless I missed something.

So tonight's posting should have been uploaded last week as we lost a giant in the world of Psych. I hope that Roky is at peace. My copy of this classic came into my possession by accident. So years ago, I won an auction of a lot of 20 45's from someone on ebay. When they arrived, I found she sent me the wrong 45's and they were not good. I was extremely bummed as there were some cool 45's in the lot I had won. She felt bad so she sent me a list of 45's she had left to pick from and she would send them to me free of charge. This was one I picked from her list (she did not list labels so I was happy happy when this showed up)

So, I don't guarantee that I still won't be lazy but hopefully I will drop in more frequently.

Nice North Carolina 45 with a garage and soul feel. I picked this up this summer and have just been lazy on uploading. Most releases on this label are from the Embers.
I picked up some Christmas 45s over the past year but again my laziness did not get them recorded. Maybe next year...lol. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and hopefully I can spend a little more time on this blog next year

Tonight I have a 45(s) I searched far and wide for. Managed to get it directly from a person who access to a warehouse in New Mexico that was related to Norman Petty and they were unplayed stone mint. So The Fireballs released this as What I am...went nowhere. Tommy James & The Shondells covered it as Say I Am and had a smash it with it. FIreballs re-released it as Say I Am--Nothing. Killer versions

Yesterday was the first day in ages that I have had the chance to go vinyl diggin...and what a day it was. I ended up bringing home 130 45's and 6 lp's. Alot of the 45's were beautiful near mint promos like this one.

Leon Hayward - Pain In My Heart

I was sitting here today cleaning some 45's I have not had a chance to listen to or clean and realized it's been ages since my last post. It has been a hectic time since my last post. We had returned from our family reunion and I posted the Carl Perkins 45. Then in late August my father died and we drove back to Colorado. I did some record searching just to keep my mind occupied as it was obviously difficult. Then we no more and get back from Colorado and Hurricane Florence hits...what a few months. So, this Leon Hayward 45 was one I was cleaning today...pretty sweet sounding song if you ask me

Carl Perkins- Dixie Fried

Yes, I am still around- just super busy. My computer crashed in May and had to buy a new one and of course I could not find my Roxio program. Good thing was I was turned on to a free audio program. My finding records has somewhat slowed down. My wife, dog and I went on a trip to Colorado and my wife let me hit some record stores on the way. I was really disappointed in the Denver stores...they used to be amazing. Favorites on the way was the Love Garden in Kansas, Independent Records in Colorado Springs, Shangri La and Goner Records in Memphis. The 45 for tonight is one I have been searching years for and it was fitting I found it in Memphis. I see tons of Carl Perkins 45's but somehow this one has eluded me.

I watched a documentary on Doug Sahm recently on Amazon and highly recommend it. Doug Sahm is one of those underrated artists that has never received the attention he deserved. I have a bunch of his albums and 45's and highly recommend you pick up Groover's Paradise. But Nuevo Laredo will do just fine

The Deceptions - Of All The Hearts & People

Ok, It has been FOREVER since I posted. I really have wanted to but I have been busy getting my home part time business up and running. I plan on selling off some of my thousands of records. I'm selling on Discogs. My user name is NOIZE_INYOUR_HEAD. I'm also on ebay but I am only selling large lots of 45s there under the name of noize_inyour_head_records.

So I am uploading a killer double sided soul 45 as a way of getting back into the groove in style. Sweet soul on one side and funky soul on the other. I have this bad boy for sale on my Discogs site but I don't expect to be uploading to my blog here 45's for sale too often. I would prefer to keep my blog exclusively for the items in my collection.
 I have some nice things in store for the blog in the near future. I don't expect to be uploading like I did a few years ago but I do plan on doing so more often than every 6 months

Velvet Underground - Sunday Morning

It would be grand to have an original copy of this. But alas, I have to enjoy my reissue copy that came in the Sundazed 45 box set. I find it interesting that the thought at the time was this could be a "successful single", however, obviously Verve had no faith in it as it extremely limited by nature. It is interesting to note that I have [or have had] in my collection copies of  Verve 10459 through Verve 10467  but never 10466 [this single] or 10458 (The Mothers of Invention). Matter of fact, it is not uncommon for me to see some of those in my travels. But never 10466 or 10458. A successful single was never seriously considered. And if you think about Verve as a label, they were venturing outside their comfort zone with bands like VU and Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. Verve was built on Jazz and Easy Listening. Around 1965, they started testing the the commercial waters venturing into soul and rock and roll. While they would have some 45 single success ( Righteous Brothers, Howard Tate), for the most they had more success with albums.


"Lou Reed wrote this on a Sunday Morning around 6am. Andy Warhol, who helped finance the album, suggested he write a song about the paranoia associated with the effects of a drug wearing off. Reed wrote this for Nico but then decided not to let the German ex-model sing it. Instead he impersonated her himself.  In The Velvet Underground: An Illustrated History of a Walk on the Wild Side, it is reported that Nico thought of this uncharacteristically upbeat tune as "Sun Day Mourning." It tells you a bit about how Nico's mind worked, and also the split that The Velvet Underground would have with Nico and her mentor Andy Warhol. This song is all about last-minute changes. The inclusion of the track on their first album was literally penciled in, Reed decided to take over vocals at the last minute as they walked into the studio to record it, and John Cale noticed a celesta in the studio and decided to include the instrument for the song on the spot. Screaming Trees- Time Speaks Her Golden Tongue

I've had the opportunity to watch some music documentaries over the past weekend on Amazon and I've enjoyed everyone one of them- one on the Residents, one on The Knack, one on Sun Ra. Highly recommended!
It seems like there are quite a bit classic reunions going on. I read Dream Syndicate will be putting out a new LP, The Feelies put one out in February. The Chills had a RSD 45, the Afghan Whigs have a new one on Sub Pop [recommended]. Scott Miller & Game Theory will have a Posthumous release  soon [my pre-ordered copy should arrive in a few months thank you very much].   So it's tie for the  Screaming Trees, time to get on the band wagon. Of course I doubt that will ultimately happen, but we can always ask. I remember when I first picked up this classic [double black vinyl] right when it was released. What a front cover. And the songs were killer. I later picked up a copies on white vinyl and then of course the nearly impossible to find red vinyl [rumored to be band copies and limited to 60 copies]. Of course I'm not in the band but I did luck into a copy. Happy Mother's Day and Happy Sub Pop Sunday
