Ventures Special Album Spot Commercial #2 Underground Fire

It was a scorcher today...103 in the town I worked out of today. I would normally say perfect beach weather to get wet but there has been a rash of shark attacks at the beach so I guess one would be best served to go to a pool. Only pool I have access to is my dog's wading pool and he's not sharing.

As I write this I am listening to a nice Gene Ammons Jazz album I picked up Saturday. Very relaxing. It was tempting to skip out on an upload tonight but I promised part 2 of the Ventures Radio commercial 45's. I love the announcer on this one... "A heavy liquid sheet of heat" or "stripped, a pagan subterranean ritual"...pretty heavy stuff, man.

A recent follower relayed there was a commercial released for the Hawaii Five O release so I guess there is another on my search list.

Sparkles - No Friend Of Mine

I picked up a few albums [for me] and some 78's [for my friend] at the flea market this morning. I came home, made some home made jalepeno poppers stuffed with cream cheese and grilled them for a snack while I listened to a Hank Williams LP I bought today. It's kinda funny mentioning Hank Williams as he is night and day different than tonight's upload. But Hank Williams has special meaning for me thanks to Grandpa. I think back to when we used to go to flea markets or yard sales and how he would buy everything vinyl up. I do know Grandpa would have easily given me the Sparkles.

I first heard this song due to the Ohio band The Cynics when they covered it. When I eventually heard the original it was a must find but has proven very illusive. Until now, that is. Thanks to my friend Craig in Maryland who sent me this unplayed 45 from 1967.

One last thought, I hate it that Divishare became funky and is unusable leaving me with years of posts that have no sound. If there are any past posts that anyone wants to hear, drop me a comment and I will gladly upload it.

The ENTRAMATIONS - MY LOVE

Wow this was a long long week and I'm happy it is the weekend. My friend sent me a box of records today including the 45 that will be posted tomorrow night....a fantastic slice of 60's punk that I have searched forever for. Tonight's 45 was from my find in South Carolina last week and is a South Carolina soul 45. I have a garage single on this label as well that I picked up last year.

Jeff Daniels - Switch Blade Sam

I've been a bit lazy with the uploads but maybe this rockin number will make up for it

The Ventures - Album Spot Commercial #1 The Horse

This was one of those really really long days. I had problems with my work computer and I am hoping it is not down for the count....that will really set me back with all the work I have to get done. But it is what it is...at least it's not my home computer.

I'm sitting here listening to the MOON lp again. Wow what a fantastic album. I had posted one of their singles previously and all I have to say is "Thank you Charlie" for giving me this lp...I'm glad it is not your cup of tea.
Tonight is one of the hardest Ventures 45's to find. Liberty put out to my knowledge 2 Promo radio spot 45' commercials with this one being the first. I'm lucky to have both but this one set me back a few clams.
I put both sides on this

The Newbeats - Thou Shalt Not Steal

I had a busy but productive day. Completed some yard work, recorded some 45's to the computer. Then a friend of mine called me and told me some things he picked up today and will be sending me. I am psyched as one of the 45's is something I have searched forever for and it will be here before the end of the week. I hope it is here in time for Saturday's post!!! Went to have dinner with another friend and his wife and on the way dropped off some 45's to another friend. He had a copy of the MOON lp on Imperial. I just finished listening to it twice. Fantastic!!!!

Here is one I picked up yesterday- I didn't feel like waiting too long. Soulful and encourages us to be honest. What better way to end a Sunday.

Models - Bend Me Shape Me

I had a very good day today. I got up early and ventured into South Carolina. I met a real nice guy and bought some good records from him that should make this blog someday

The Dorchesters - Just Look At Me

I had a real good day. Had to work at the clinic this morning but afterwards I went to an estate sale a friend told me about and picked up some wicked albums [A mint Ventures Walk Don't Run LP, a Mongo Santamaria boogaloo lp, a few Sandy Nelson LP's and a couple of weird things]. Came home and played them on a new Technica turntable I ordered this week and came on Thursday. I set it up in the living room and over the rest of the early evening I listed to the above lp's listed above, as well as a Ben Webster LP, a John Coltrane/Duke Ellington LP, a Warren Zevon LP, and a Social Distortion LP. Variety is the slice of life.

On a sad note, my record collecting friend Ray died on Thursday after a long illness. I met Ray at a yard sale years ago and over the years he filled my collection [and this blog] with many 45's.. Ray, you will be missed my friend.

Elmer Bernstein - The Magnificent Seven

Classic song. Wish Jack Nitszsche's version had been on a 45 as that is the ultimate version

Bill Hjerpe - Navigation Blues

My wife is right. I have Obsessive Compulsive tendencies (records). I am aware of it and it really hit home this morning while organizing some 45's. I found I had some Ventures duplicates with label variations for El Cumbanchero so I uploaded the pictures. How many variations do I need.
For tonight,  I always loved this one and recently picked up the picture sleeve for it. I also decided to upload a song to my other blog, the neglected one. http://sonicparaphernalia.blogspot.com/

Mark Radice - Richest Man In The World

My blog is obviously at the mercy of circumstances outside my control. Look at how many posts I have made using Divishare that are unplayable. All I can do is move forward and hope that what I use stays put for awhile.
On a happier note,  how about another Mark Radice song....too bad the others are buried in Divishare

Quadrangle - She's Too Familiar Now

I spent a cold morning running around and only found 10 45's. During that time I listened to the last Saturday morning Bill Kelly Program on the Underground Garage as they are moving his time slot. Big drag to that one as his program is the best.
This 45 was on my want list for ages. This copy has found a good home.

Robb and Dean Douglas - I Can Make It With You

Been a busy time and I have had no time for the blog. Plus the other site I was using identified I had already exceeded my free use. So, I'm experimenting with other options and hope to learn to embed the mp3's into the post. We shall see.

I went to record store day early last Saturday and was about the 50th person in line. The store opened about 8am and I arrived just before 6am. It was a beautiful morning and I sat on the sidewalk enjoying the weather and drinking some coffee. It ended up being a very long day due to other issues [long damn story]. But I bought most of the stuff I wanted so overall I can't complain.

I always liked the Poco Seco Singers version of this 45 and found this about a month ago

Jackie Wilson and Count Basie - Chain Gang

I hit the bi-annual record show in Carrboro NC today and I have to say it was a pretty pathetic showing. I walked out with nothing. There were few people with 45's, several of the individuals had overpriced scratched slabs of wax and one seller said, "the rare stuff is the box here below". I did not look, he had crazy high prices on the generic crap....another seller had boxes of nothing of interest unpriced. Albums were ridiculously priced. I had better luck at the flea market but even there I picked up a dozen 45's, a Del Shannon LP and the Beach Boys Stack o Wax UK import LP.

The Stone Circus - Mr. Grey

I had to work today so no searching for records. However, a nice box of 45's arrived in the mail. There is a guy that has record auctions 4 or 5 times per year and I don't remember how I found out about him but I have probably been bidding for 10+ years. He always has a nice selection of stuff all over the map and minimum bid is a buck. I won a bunch in his last auction and they came in the mail today. Tonight's posting was in the box. I bid more than a buck but not much.  Interesting that the label has 3 minutes 5 seconds but it actually plays just over 2 minutes...was the album version longer?
