Welcome to Sub Pop Tuesday..a Tuesday theme I will try to keep up for a while anyway. At one time I was the biggest Sub Pop collector- bar none! I collected everything and still have some of the rarest things around- test pressings, one of a kind items. Then a few years ago I realized (1) I did not like alot of the stuff they were putting out and (2) they were pressing up special color vinyl versions for different retailers so if you were a completest like me you would need to buy 3 or 4 or 5 copies to get them all- and that was ridiculous, especially if you did not like the record. For a record OCD person like me I needed to put a stop to that. So I made the choice to stop buying them all and also decided to get rid of quite a bit of the Sub Pop lp's that did nothing for me...and I still have more to get rid of. Now I still have all my Sub Pop 45's and at some point I will start getting rid of some of those. I will feature some albums on Tuesdays awhile then will switch to 45's, which I had previously featured years ago.
Anyway, to this post. Last summer/fall Sub Pop reissued a remastered version of the first Velocity Girl album. Now that is a record I loved and I planned on buying it mail order like I did (or thought I did) when it was first released. When I decided to pull the trigger the Sub Pop website showed it was sold out on the Loser edition color vinyl...holy crud Batman. So I searched and the prices are creeping up for it...what the F...! So luckily I found a reasonable copy on the bay of E's with free shipping so I grabbed it. I listened to it and rememembered how wonderful it was. So I dug through my collection to pull out my copies. As you can see....yes I was a collector (did some one say obsessive?). Like I said, I thought I had first purchased it mail order so imagine my surprise when I saw a wax trax price tag on the cover of the purple marble copy...wow, I could have sworn I bought it mail order. Over the years I picked up the others, blue, pink and black vinyl US copies, the german red vinyl, a promo german cd and a promo US cassette. I easily could have featured more on this album and Crazy Town and Audrey were issued as 45's so they may be featured in the future..who knows where this will go.
